Is it possible to lock Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel so others cannot manipulate info? As of now, I convert to PDF and secure with a password. But I was just wondering if Gates put in a security function in his Windows programs. . .

It is possible with Excel and Word, not sure about PowerPoint. Haven't installed Office on this computer yet so I can't check how it is done, but I think it is in of the menus on the far right (next to help?).

Most of the Office apps have password protection capabilities, but there are a slew of products out there that will unlock them. And many of them are freeware/shareware.

The poster has demanded we remove all his contributions, less he takes legal action.

The reason I ask is that currently we send PDF versions of powerpoint presentations to our in-house copy center. Printing from a PDF creates a fuzzy effect around our company logos. I figure this can be solved if I send the copy center the original ppoint files- but I want to secure the files just in case the hooligans in the copy center accidentally alter the files . . . not intentionally.

I haven't played with PP but presumably it would have the same ability to make files read only as word and excel does. Yes it can be cracked but it should prevent any "Whoops I hit the delete key a couple of times" mistakes
