This evening I successfully completed the JPMorgan Chase Corporate Challenge in Central Park. 3.5 mile run, my time was 38 minutes, 28 seconds. A total of 14,000 people ran/walked. Whew! A few years back I completed 2 biathlons (3 mile run/18 mile bike/3 mile run). I think I will try and get back into that!

Anyone in the asylum experienced endurance sports?

I recently participated in a corporate triathalon...
it was quite short, but was a great way to find some of my fitness again, and get into the sport.
it was just 400m swim, 10k ride, 4k run.
lots of fun.

No, but the Boston Marathon starts at my old church! Two towns away from me, 20 minute drive.

Was in the Marine Corps, so I got my fill of 'endurance' sports. Ran three miles a few times a week and hit 6 miles a few times a month. Once used to it, it's easy, but get even a little out of shape during a vacation or something and it hurts to get back into the swing of things!

Besides mandatory running, I had also run with the Hash House Harriers quite a bit. That was fun! "Drinkers with a running problem." Great memories ...

Heh...saw some of those marines run, BeeKay...I think they call it a 'Death Run' or something like that...glad we only had to participate occasionally...(with the marines...). I think they are all 'run happy'....

But you are right about falling out of shape quickly...don't think i'd be able to do such times in my present condition....*sigh* I smoke too much now...

You guys are truly insane..

Why run, when you could get a cab or something

Well...

'Everything is within walking distance...if you have got the time...' Steven Wright

So if you don't have that much time, you ...well...run. You know, sort of like

'30 yards to the outhouse by Willy Makit and Betty Wont'

Don't think waiting for a Cab would be preferrable in this case...

Actually just did the San Francisco Bay to Breakers for kicks about 2 weeks ago.
7.5 mi 1:13.27 placed 4002 about 60K people do this every year about 25K actually run the thing.

I don't really race much but I run, hit the gym and play water polo to stay in shape
I think next year I'm gonna suck it up though and do the race I've always wanted to do:

The Escape From Alcatraz Triathalon

And here's one for the *rest* of us!

"Back in Saint John, a much-anticipated annual event dubbed the Short Fat Guys One Mile Downhill Run not only tickles that community's funny bone each year but raises thousands of dollars for various charities to boot. Launched seven years ago as a joke by a handful of self-confessed fat guys who had congregated in a local pub, the races are now held across Atlantic Canada every year."

They have rest areas along the route, a few hotdog stands and across the finish line.... cold beer!
Civilized.... very civilized. <lol>
