http://www.haughtbk.com/ozonetourney.html <----- Page is updated with all current games.

Sash defeated Doc in the second round. Warjournal and Webshaman are deep into their game while most of the other games are working their way through the opening phase. Suho recently joined up and issued a challenge to Moaiz, so that game should kick off soon.

WJ, you are directly responsible for my loss to grimjaws...I had to concentrate on our game too much...dang it! Great match, thanks for making it really difficult...kudos.

Oh yeah, just thought I'd bump this up

So...nice game. Here a few 'pointers' (I said that I would show you where you had me...)

1. d4 d5
2. Nc3 c6
3. a3 e6
4. Nf3 Bd6
5. e4 Nf6
6. e5 Ng4
7. exd6 Qxd6
8. Ng5 e5 (g4 to h2)
9. h3 Nf6
10. Be2 e4
11. h4 Bf5
12. g4 Bd7
13. Nh3 c5
14. Bf4 Qb6
15. b3 Nc6
16. g5 cxd4
17. gxf6 dxc3
18. Qxd5 gxf6
19. Qxe4+ Be6
20. Kd1 Rd8+
21. Ke1 Ne7
22. Be3 Qd6
23. Qa4+ Bd7
24. Qd4 Qc6
25. f3 Nf5 (d7 to h3)
26. Qc5 Qe6
27. Kf2 Nxh4
28. Nf4 Qf5
29. Rxh4 Qxc2
30. Nd5 a5
31. Qe7++

So...on the 8th move - e5 : instead g4 to h2 (gets the pawn) - kinda minor, really, but a pawn is a pawn...

Here the big one...and I thought you had me *wipes sweat from brow*
move #25 - Nf5 : instead d7 to h3 - gets the horse, and would have totally changed the game (for you). As after effects from your move, the game was lost...but here (my suggestion), the game could have been won...sometimes things can hang on just one move...

Once again, thanks for the great game...
Unfortunetely, I lost to Grimgod (not grimjaws). This game with WJ just took too much concentration...but was well worth it.

Move #8 - a knight for a pawn so early in the game? I don't think so. Then again, my queen was right there. ~smacks forehead~

On move #25, no way, man. You were playing too good for me to trade a bishop for a knight. I had already lost 2 power pieces and I didn't want to lose any more - especially my other bishop. Had your knight been unprotected, I surely would have taken it.

Don't tell anybody, but I'm really surprised you didn't castle. You are the first person that didn't castle within a few moves of me expecting it. I've got a few more things to say about this, but I don't want to give away too much of my playing style to others reading this. Heh.

I don't want to play you again anytime soon. You make my head hurt.

Guess again WJ...because moving the bishop exposes my queen to the rook...which means you get the knight for free...and that would have turned the game to your favor (esp. considering the crappy position of my king - lol).

As for not Castling...well, I made a mistake (actually, it was an error...I pressed the wrong button...I actually wanted to move the rook...and castle later on the kings side...but, oh well...that's how it goes...

So for anyone playing WJ in the future...DON'T CASTLE!!!

Thanks for the lessons, WebShaman. I think I'm finally getting back up speed after years of chess neglect. All of those old neurons are finally starting to fire again. Now if I can only find my Rubik's Cube...

Yeah, speaking of slow games, it's been five days since I made my move in my game with moaiz. My "unofficial" game (in that it's not part of the tournament) with WS is going along at a fair pace--although I'm not sure I like the direction. I've been finding it really hard to concentrate, and when I get around to moving I've forgotten everything I was thinking about when I made the last move, so I'm always thinking, "What did I do that for?" I suppose not having played chess since I came to Korea might be a factor, too. But you've got to dive back in sometime, right?

Yes, correspondence chess can be frustrating when a game creeps along at a snail's pace. Maybe if things move too slow, we'll have to call the game based on who is ahead or based on who is or isn't active. Sound all right as a concept? Don't want too many folks losing interest.

Well, they do have that forfeit time limit, but the default is thirty days! I guess I could have changed it, but I never thought about it.

I've also thought some more about the difficulties I'm having, and I've concluded that the reason is: I suck.

@BeeKay...well, a 'time limit' for our tournament wouldn't be all that bad (IMHO)...otherwise this tournament could take about a year....a match shouldn't take more than a week or two, IMHO. But you're running it...you decide...

@suho...just download a java viewer and 'paste' the moves from your game(s) in it...it will help you keep with the game...helps me...and it will help you 'plan' future moves...a great help, IMHO. Also, you can challenge other players, esp. those at the chess forum...it will increase your skills dramatically...

I'm 2-0!!!

Does that mean I get to sit the 3rd round out?

I'll be updating the page soon. I'll probably also make the next round's pairings.

So, right now I plan on calling the game Suho vs Moaiz in Suho's favor due to Moaiz's not moving.

I also will look at calling the game Veneficuz vs. Skaarjj in Veneficuz's favor since I believe Skaarjj is the one not moving there.

And in order to get the pairings for the next round going, I will call the game Dark vs. Synthetic in Synthetic's favor since Synthetic is ahead by a bishop at this point.

If anyone objects to these calls, then please speak up NOW. Otherwise, let's get ready to kick off round three in the next few days!

Girlie #1 and I were cleaning out the old car the other day. We found my old traveling chess set. You know, the kind that fold with magnetic pieces. All the pieces were still there, but I did have to take some wood glue to it. Three days ago, I believe.

She's 4-1/2 years old, and now she knows how to set up a chess board. She also understands how to move rooks and bishops. We play goofball games mixed with some semi-serious chess learning. Seems to be working because she is picking up *much* faster than I expected.

Jeez. Kids now-a-days. I didn't learn how to play chess until I was 9.

She's learning some very basic PS as well. She really loves the Lasso tool. The other day she was playing a tangle of kite string and chanting, "Marching ants... marching ants..." I literally stopped in my tracks.

I kinda hope she sticks with chess, but I'm certainly not going to push. As long as she has fun while learning a few things, I'm good.

When we enter round 3, she will most certainly be sitting on my lap. Gotta love it.
