Ok, I nabbed this from http://www.expectnothing.com/ . This is why America (no offense to anyone from the states) is hated by alot of other countries, because of people that say things like this:

quote:
The reason why Soccer is the most popular sport in the world is because of the lack of what it takes to play the game. No ice, pads, helmets, bats, gloves, bases and what not. Americans go for more glamour and play the sports that cost a ton of money to play. There is so many super poor third world countries that cant fucking afford to play the real sports. Hence their best athletes participate in Soccer. If The United States somehow gave a rats fucking ass about Soccer. In which it will never happen in this lifetime. WE would most likely be the most dominating team. The best athletes in the world reside in the NBA and NFL and there is even a few in MLBA. You have to remember how highschool athletes in the states look apon soccer, when you have so many european and latin countries that thrive and dwell on soccer since their early years. Honestly I just take the ignorant approach when some retarded european kid tells me how much better they are at soccer. We dominate almost every other Popular Team sport in the world. Of Course Hockey we might be a tad behind the Canadians but we are only second to them and we have proved we have what it takes by winning the World Cup of Hockey and the Gold Medal before. Again if the American's devoted time to hockey like Canadians did, and got African Americans into it, we would simply embarass them to. USA has the best facilities and trainers in the world when it comes to training for any athletic event. I am sure there is a bunch of kids out there that would argue but its funny that at the last Summer Olympics 72% of the Gold medal winners trained in the United States. Even Canadian's prize sprinter has trained since he was at the collegiate level in the States.
Anyhow my point is we are too busy being rich, playing with home electronics, to driving around in really expensive cars then to get off our asses and go play a poor man's sport let alone give a rat's ass. United States Soccer players are the kids that got cut from the Football team or just did not have it in them to play Football. And the other half are the ones that played baseball instead in the spring. For Americans Soccer always falls into a major sporting season, like FootBall, Baseball, Soccer.

Now flame me you little plump european computer nerds +__+

Shlonglor "used" to be good.. ever since his new site, everything he says is garbage. It seems his site is only interesting during election times. I mean, soccer is definately more of a sport than basketball or baseball, and if you watch a couple games, I'm sure you'll agree it takes more tallent too.

My personal opinion on Shlonglor is that he is a lifeless tool who will never feel the soft touch of a woman. I think it's gone to his head that he works at Blizzard. Mind you, he doesn't actually *do* anything besides update the news. I think anyone who has read his page long enough will agree with me.

The ignorant exist everywhere. In fact, we are all ignorant to an extent. It's just a by-product of America's economic dominance that creates this kind of unfounded cockiness. I mean, it's one thing to debate the merits of various sports, but to cite America's wealth as a reason for superiority is disgusting to me. This punk ass can live in his own sheltered world and believe that America is so perfect and he is so perfect for being born here all he wants. He contributes to the downfall of the US the same as every other spoiled brat who grows up here thinking the world owes them something.

As nauseating as these people can be, they should serve as reminders of the level of ignorance humans are capable of, and we can all be glad that we use our brains a little more than that.

Off topic note: Do you know that kangaroo actually means "I don't know." When white explorers came to Australia, they pointed to the kangaroo and asked what it was. The natives, not understanding, said I don't know.

How did I know this? Uh...bloke in a pub told me.

Sorry Dan, but most sports all require talent for one to really play well. Now, I've played soccer, baseball and basketball. I'm really surprised you say that to play soccer requires more talent. Basketball and soccer are surprisingly similar. Both are fast, have very specific rules on how the ball can be handled, and depends on 'goals' for points...

But to be realistic, it's really like comparing apples and oranges.

As for the 'article'....that guy has probably never played sports before, so has absolutely no idea what he is talking about...

Well I believe countries dislike the United States out of sheer jealousy and nothing else but thats an entirely different subject all together. The truth is the United States, having more money, does play a key role into why the United States generally is better at certain athletics then other nations. To argue this point is silly. Other nations don't have the money to spend on their children to participate in the athletics nor do they have the money to build facilities in the area. Also we have better food and medicine then the majority of countries to improve athletic conditions. The reasons are potentially endless, but money is a factor in each reason.

I suppose this is why a good portion of the better basketball players come from predominently poor areas. Basketball is a cheap sport.

I try not to dislike any particular country, nation or race, just specific people.

Although it's hard sometimes. We all rely hevily on associations and past experiences to guide out actions, or in the very least, out thoughts. Labeling and boxing things is just how the world works. It's a pitty that so many of us end up stuck in the wrong box.

Luckily, I have an 'Arrogant and stupid soprts fan' box to put that guy in for now.

I have played soccer too, and let me tell you it is not the easiest sport to play. Kicking a ball around with very little protection is nothing to scoff at and for a woman, it hurts taking a ball to the chest. I have a lot of respect for those players. hehehe.

Yeah, but have you ever taken a line drive baseball to the chest?

Seriously, all sports played at a professional level require both talent and commitment.

Comparing different sports with one another in an attempt to 'show' one is better, or requires more 'talent', is plain silly.

After all, the main idea behind sports is to have fun...not to bicker with one another about which sport is better...
