40x/12x/48x CD-RW = 40 write , 12 rewrite and 48 read right ?

16x/12x/48x DVD-ROM = ? you've got a dvd writer too?

and what is both their brands? teac and pioneer?

what is intel mobo?

and how much you've got your gforce2?

10x!

also not sure on the cd-rw and dvd-rom but i guess creative

I made most of the decisions but ultimately the one with the money made the decision but i got what i wanted for the most part

I used to be an INTEL freak, but know I prefers AMD for their price/quality ratio which far better than INTEL's one.
By replacing your Pentium4 2.26 by an AthlonXP 2100 you should have bought a GeForce 4 instead of the already ( almost ) outdated GF2. I also say that 'cause it seems you don't change your computer quite often and the graphic card is what gets outdated the fastest.

whatever, I can't imagine the shock you had with difference of speed . I was already surprised when replaced my P2 350 + TNT2 + 256mb by an A.Tb 1.4 + GF3 64DDR + 512mb

Sounds like a rocking system. Looks wicked too!

but I would really put some thought into that video card. The GF2 line is getting pretty old, and that fact that it is an MX is really a downfall. Maybe you could spring for the GF2 Ti version. That is what I currently run and it's quite strong for the price. It runs all new games at good graphic settings without a hitch.

Looks awesome though.....(looks at outdated beigh case and SLAPS IT! "Dam you, be more pretty!")....

well if i get a new video card after i get the computer then i lose the warranty. in a year i could upgrade. Now if Gateway updates the video card on the 700S computers and it is better than my current card then all i got to do is call them and they will put in the new card for free

I noticed the considerable difference in price between intel and AMD. I would choose AMD but since the one with the money is making the final decision we are getting a pentium. every computer this family has had, except our first one, has been custom built.

The guy who built all our computers can't talk to my mother and my mother doesnt want to talk to him so she is just going with a company. She relied on me to make the hardware choices. The downside to a gateway and not custom is she is getting a warranty. This means i can't upgrade a single thing for a year.

So i have to wait till my brother's birth day till I could upgrade my video card or anything else

You really don't need to upgrade for a year anyway. What kind of Pentium chip are you getting? Just wondering?

CFB: Try reading the specs he posted up in his first post in this thread, they're all there. And in case you're thinking 'maybe celeron, if that was the case, it wouldn't be listed ans pentium, since celeron and pentium are two different chipsets.

Thats weird...Their was a PC Magazine article about a month ago about 128 bit chips. I think that Pentium had one, I know that Intel does.
