I am in the process of adding a new page to my color page.
This one is pretty much just a list of color names, and hex values that
corresponds to them.
I havn't added it to the menu, so it is not quite official yet.
I'd be happy for any comments or feedback you might have on this.

Personally I think this might be a useful page, but maybe that is because
English is not my first language and I don't know all the English words for
the colors...

Anyway, here it is:

thanks

So, are these colors gamma-corrected (intended to be displayed on an average monitor)? Or are they actual values that need to be manually corrected by whoever uses them when they're going to be displayed on monitors?

Though you said it's not an exact science, so it probably doesn't matter. This may come in handy, thanks.

That`s great, Zox.

Hey,
thanks for your comments.
I was hoping that was not the only one who would be helped by a list of this sort.

Slime, the colors are purly html generated, so there is sure to be variations between monitors. But as said, these are just guidelines, and are not at all exact.

I had my wife look at it, and she already spotted some things I need to change, such as the burgundy, maroon and plum.

At the moment it is all hardcoded in an html file. I was thinking that maybe I should make it dynamic, and let visitors add their own colors and definitions, so it would be a sort of ongoing growing color-name library. (I also had some ideas of doing the same thing with complete color schemes...)
Do you think that would be possible, or would it just get out of hand? I don't have that much experience with user driven things of that sort... my color page is not really that much visited, but it is slowly growing... close to 10.000 visitors per months now, I think.

thanks again

I think you could have a lot of fun making the page user updatable and I think it could increase the popularity of it. There are a lot of people here who could help answer any questions you might have if you decided to. Your page is a great resource.

ZOX: Nice work there and great idea for making it more interactive. To make it manageable I'd do something like ask people their sex (to see if there is a difference) and then present them with a grid of colours and then flash them a colour name and ask them to pick a colour (in say 10 seconds) store the value and then show them the same thing for another colour. You could then average out the colours (actually I'd do a mean and a mode) and present a selection of colours that best represent people's perception of colours. You could even throw in more off the wall suggestions like war, hope, madness, etc.

I think a study into colour perception would be very interesting

We have done so.
