Man it is soooooo that time of the year when everything electrical stuffs up I reckon.
This time around every time I go to start up a program under Win ME and click on anything in the program, the bloody thing freezes on me. I cant do anything but hit the magic button, restart
How can I stop this from happening, its pissing me off SO MUCH as I have assigments to do and they only run under Win ME and no other OS.

Will he or wont he?

If you haven't updated any software or drivers lately, then I think you're right about the two years of accumulated s*** mentioned in your other post. (If you have, roll-back to prior versions.)

First, dump everything in your Start Up folder. (If you really, really need something there, (most folks don't) move them to another folder temporarily.)

Second, from Start, Run, type in msconfig, click OK. On the Startup tab, uncheck *everything except for* Task Monitor, System Tray, LoadPowerProfile and your anti-virus stuff. Reboot. When it whines you have startup stuff unchecked, tell it "No S***."

Third, download, install and run Ad-Aware from http://www.lavasoftusa.com/

Fourth, download, install and run either RegCleanr or JV16 Power Tools (run the Registry Tool) from http://www.jv16.org/

If this hasn't helped, you'll probably need to reinstall Windows. Clean install is best.

If it has helped, you can put stuff back into the Start Up folder and msconfig's Startup tab *if you really need it*. Most of that stuff is crap designed only to put some company's logo in your system tray, hog clock cycles and cause memory conflicts.

Hope this helps!

<edit> Typos and: Although it's not likely in this case, your anti-virus software is up to date, right? </edit>

Update the drivers for your motherboard and video card. As the previous poster said make sure your virus def's are up to date and remove all fluff from startup. I would only use a registry cleaning tool as a last resort, be sure to set a recovery point before using one.

PS Why will this program only run in ME?

It'll actually run under Win98, he just can't be stuffed installing it. It won't run under anything resembling an NT environment, so, not NT, not 2000 and not XP.

Well........
I did all that stuff to the Startup options. Plus I removed some unwanted shit from the drive using Ad-Aware. I also chose Normal Startup as well.
When I went to go and edit the video (using Pinnacle Studio DC10 Plus) I clicked on settings for capture and of course the F***** thing froze on me:S So I tried re-installing it, still happens! The thing that really bugs me is that it use to work fine until this last week or so.
After all the things Ive heard, Im really starting to think its just shitty ME and my editing proggies not getting along all of a sudden. I dont know.......I really dont.

When in doubt format the entire thing.

Before you do that though, I would check to see if your av software is updated and run a few scans on your computer. Use ad aware and regcleaner to rid your machine of unwanted things. Last but certainly not least delete everything you don't really need. I try to keep a clean machine with just the essentials. I uninstalled all that Microsoft crap that I really didn't need. I got rid of that Real Player player garbage, etc.

Ive had enough of this shit, capture card wont work in Win2k and there are no drivers for it.
Nothing will capture from my VCR so that I can edit my last movie for a big Yr 12 (final year of school here) assignment, and Im seriously running out of time.
Blah blah blah blah.....throw in as many technical probs as you can and you have my situation.
So.....after some serious contemplating Im going to copy everything from the drive to this one, Win2k. And re-do it all, I will install Win98 this time around as WinME sucks arse Ive found. And from here I might have some luck with my video editing software.
