Preserved Topic: Compatibility Issues With DVD Drives (Page 1 of 1)

Goddamn DVD woes! A few months ago I got a Pioneer DVD-RW that pretty much does everything from burning CD's\DVD's, re-writing them and reading them. The previous drive is also a Pioneer DVD reader. Normally I use this to play my DVD's but since installing the writer\reader I have erros like:
1. Wont play the DVD with associated software player.
2. Receive error messages like "DVD Error. Error Code: 8007001F. A device attached to the system is not functioning." or loads up a playlist to choose certain .VOB files, etc. I use PowerDVD to play my DVD's.

I've looked everywhere on Google for a solution and havent turned up anything that will solve it. Also this is really shitting me. I know it has something to do with Master, Slave, Primary and all that - would I need to fix things up under the BIOS settings?

Pioneer DVD-ROM-105 SCSI CdRom Device
Pioneer DVD-RW 106D SCSI CdRom Device

I don't know how to help you but just out of curiosity, are your DVD drivers connected to some kind of controller, instead of directly into the motherboard?

I have two controllers in my computer, one for connecting my ATA-100 HDs, and one for connecting my ATA-133 HDs (my motherboard is still ATA-66 compatible only). I remember that once I tried to connect my DVD player into one of them and I got some problems. Then, I left the player connected to the mainboard, and everything worked okay.

There is a Support page at Pioneer.com for the 106 drive. not sure if it's your exact drive or not but I thought it might help. I always go to the manufacturer's site to find out if there are any known issues. I just searched on your product info.

I really have no idea if they are or not. I'm pretty sure they are connected to a controller.

Thanks for that. But usually I trust coming here first than going to the actual manufacturerer's site. I didnt find anything that present a solution to my problem but I did send an email to the technical department.

On a side note, I do have that other DVD drive. I have heard from some people I shouldn't play DVD's from a drive that writes as it will stuff up the crystal that does the actual writing. Is it wise not to actually play from a writable drive or wont it matter? Because I really dont want to wear out my brilliant writer when it's practially brand new.

And now: A word from the person who actually installed the drives.

Hi guys.

The DVD-ROM drive is in Primary Slave and the DVD-RW is in Secondary Master IDE channels. No SCSI controllers on the board, but these are IDE drives anyway and couldn't make use of a SCSI board. I followed the onstructions of pioneer to the letter, and they don't function the way they are supposed to. Then again, this is not an unknown phenomenon for this computer, where nothing works the way it's supposed to.

ARGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!

Now both of my drives wont work!!!!! My DVD-R that could play DVD's last night will only detect and not play the f***ing thing. I'm friggin so frustrated with these stupid DVD drives.

I know there is a solution out there - just wish someone or something would bloody show me the goddamn solution!

I find very difficult to help someone remotely in these kinds of system related problems.
Only by trying and testing and getting frustrated, angry, mad, crazy, kicking the damn thing, trying again, etc., I would have a chance to try to find out a solution.

I swear to God this is the most annoying thing I've had with this computer.

Now I can't even copy files from the two drives, I always get the error message: "Cyclic Redundency Check".
I know it's not the DVD I'm trying to play but the drive. I have tried other DVD's and still get the same message.

Considering the damn money spent on the writer and how smoothly the other one went before hand, I pissed and find the whole thing bloody infuriating!

It appears when I play CD's they are ok and I can even copy the files over to my HD, but if it were a DVD it doesnt work, telling me there is an I\O error. So whatever that means and "A Device attached to your system is not functioning" ...I would love to know exactly what it is so I can solve the goddamn thing!
