Hey everyone,
I was looking for hooking up multiple (three, four...) remotes to my computer, preferably via usb.
Now, the remotes should be numerical, with a few additional buttons, but not to many buttons.
At least two of them should be able to talk with the computer at the same time.
So, I've been searching the net, and all I found is this document, which details building the usb-receiver on the computer. There,s also a zip file containg the bill of materials, 'gerber' files and so on.
Now, I can soldered cables, and have breadboarded the usual 'alarm curcuit' a few years ago, but this is a bit above my head.
I'm certain I could program it, but building it, and building analog remote controls (not to mention that I've no idea where I would get their 'cases' from (except other remote controls) is a bit over my top.
So, is there anyone here that either knows where to get such devices or is willing to (help me) build some or knows someone (preferably in germany) who could build me some at an affordable price?
Thank you,
Tyberius Prime

Are you looking for someone to help build one of these i guess??....
i'd love to see if i could help on it. not sure other than mostly being able to get some of the parts (caps, resisitors and such for really cheap)

well, yeah, I'd need a lot of guidance, and probably should start with a few decent books from the local library.
I had hoped, someone would know a place to get these things ready-to-order ;-)
Well, maybe someone has a good book recomendation (not too basic please: I can identifiy a resistor when I see one (most of the time))?
Or knows an online electronics community?
so long,

well i can ask our electronics guy about references.
i showed him the schematic and he said it wouldn't be *that* difficult to make. However, anything is easy once you know
i found a place that you can get the CY7C63231A from and they had an international distributor. Have to find it again. As far as the nRF2401 goes, not sure. I can possiblly get those from a company here since i know some people, not sure.
What will this be used for? Not sure i follow the logic or i just read over it too quickly.
I guess what it is, is that you are going to have one remote from your computer's USB and from there it will get the signal from say 3 or 4 different things (i.e. keyboard, mouse, etc...) right?

I get it...so you're looking for a way to turn what would otherwise be standard tethered peripherals into wireless ones? Intriguing...
The circuits aren't that complicated, they're basically a set of signal processors and transmitters and one reciever. The reciever itself is quite simple, mainly becuase it just passes on what it gets to the internal program...that's what does all the interpreting of the transmitted signals...
And each device has it's own bytecode by which the program identifies it, meaning that none of them can get their signals mixed up...ingenious, I must say.
I'd love to have a crack at building one of these, but it's far out of my reach, monetary-wise.

glad you got it Skarjj...took me a couple of reads for some reason to "get it" didn't really get what was ment by "remotes" i think...
anyway.
These parts are not really that expensive really. Most of them (resistors, caps, crystals etc...) are really cheap ( a buck or 2) the big thing is the boards for them. There is a company that we deal with for prototypes of amp boards that can make these though. Pretty mush send them the specs and they build it for you. From what I can tell, I would have to have them make about 10 at a time. It'd be around $60 for them to do the boards but that is the biggest expense. After that, it shouldn't be very much at all.

well, I'm going to build a home control sysrtem, with speech output, and all kinds of cool tricks (telling who's calling, keeping grocery list, and so on),
but for that, I need to have serveral remotes, at least one for each room, and the waf factor (women's acceptance factor) better be pretty high on it ;-)
Reitsma's remote is infared though.
gotta run now,
more info later,
thanks for your support, CPrompt!

So a remote communications interface for your PC, a kind of interactive intercom? I don't think any of us are getting this. If I'm right... That's a cool idea. Can't help just trying to figure out what you're really after. WAF... That's great. LOL
