Hi,

I'd like to start using DHTML in my webdesigns and have been surfing
the DHTML websites for awhile reading reading reading. THEY ARE
ALL TERRIBLE!!! I need a nice beginning tutorial that describes the
basic principles and gives nice concise understandable definitions
of <layer> z-index etc. i'd like to be able to produce some designs
like DocOzone's Glass Tutorial pages. The DHTML specific sites i've
been on just have different tricks like collapsable dhtml menus where
they give you the code which you're supposed to cut n paste into your
own pages with no additional help if you want to do anything with the
code other than straight cut n paste.
If any of you have a nice beginner primer on DHTML on your site or
know of one please post it here or email me.

Thanks

Tommy

2 of the sites I found most helpful are:
http://www.bratta.com/

and
http://www.projectcool.com/

At projectcool, check out the developers zone, and read the CSS part thoroughly -- it is the most helpful section as far as I'm concerned.

BTW Dan, I think we all know Doc enough now to know he won't care about posting to other people's tutes....most of us have done it before anyway <img border=0 align=absmiddle src="http://www.ozones.com/forum/smile.gif">

Yah, I was going to mention Bratta and ProjectCool (which only does IE, BTW, not my favorite concept. Cross-browser, please!) Also check out the HTML guru, at
http://www.htmlguru.com/

He uses DHTML to display his DHTML tutes, which isn't always the best, makes cutting stuff out kind of a pain, but a good resource.

PS: Doc likes tutorials. Mine, Phong's, Bratta's, Scream's, whatever. Post away!

Well, projectcool focuses on IE, and some of their pages are IE only (which I also don't like, even though it's what I use), but I learned quite a bit that is crossbrowser compatible -- the CSS section is wonderful. htmlguru, while fascinating, confused me more than it did anything else -- of course I haven't been back in a while, maybe I'd understand things better now.

I think a key concept to see here is that much of DHTML is not new stuff. It is basically Style Sheets and Javascript working togeather. By learning them both, even seperatly you will have better control over dHTML
