How about this? a button that is linked to another page and that moves randomly around the index page.

By "how about this" I assume you're asking for help on how to do it, right?

It would require a bit of DHTML... why don't you give us some idea of your skill level? It'd help us out =)

Alas, I am a newbie. Yes I need some help with this...yeah lots of help.

My advise is to start at the beginning...

First read, http://www.dansteinman.com/dynduo/, I recommend from start to finish. It will take you from basic movement into designing advanced javascript functionality.

Then once you have that down use: http://developer.netscape.com/docs/manuals/communicator/jsref/index.htm

That is the official rules of Javascript by netscape.

There is no quick fix for this. You need to know the basics before you can go anywhere with javascript. It is onething to plug in mouse overs and quite another to do the more advanced functions.

Reason being that many of the advanced funtions need a lot of customization that you must understand.

The reason that there are many really cruddy web sites out there is because people use the cut and paste method where it just does not work.

Once you understand what you are doing then you will be fine. And it will all fall into place.

Do you want it to move around constantly? Like its floating over the page? Or you just want it to be in a different spot each time the page is loaded?

I want it to move around constantly. So the person who views the page has to "chase the button" in order to click on it.

but i have put a quick example on the net.
there is a three state button who swings around. maybe you'll have to write a smart moving algorithm for your needs.

in your last question i thought you were looking for mousepointer interaction.
