well, here's my latest try at document.writing some divs into different browsers.
it worked fine for one, then i did it for a fwe different objects, and sure enough, netscape goes off and does its own thing.
can someone help? http://reitsma.tripod.com/problems.html

Hi Bunchapixels, yea I know, your thinking oh shit not butcher again! I promise I won't try to help with your code again, just an observation.

When I bring your page up in IE 5.0, It works great as long as it's full screen. Being at anything less than full screen throws the alignment of your buttons off, makes them seem like they are on two different rows.

I thought it looked pretty good in both NN4.08 and NN4.7 except you couldn't always see the top part of the media button (i.e. you saw the whole word without sliding it out). They both looked and worked well full screen, but when I minimized the screen some, the bottom button (publications) disappeared altogether, but the other buttons kept their shape (stayed round that is). This goes without saying of course, that when I resized the window in NN, everything completely disappeared and I had to reload the page.

It's a great effect, I hope you get it worked out! Sorry I can't be of more help

Oh man, you really just bummed me out.

Sorry to hear your giving up,(and I was the last straw) you were so close.

BTW, I played with your code a little bit, most of it just boggled my mind, but I took out the <BR> tag after your #3 button where it says if(ie)document.write<BR>. It ruined the alignment in the full size window, but fixed it in the smaller window. I don't know how but I'm sure you have it dynamically not put that tag in if the browser is not full screen.

Sorry again Bunch

nah its cool butcher....
i mean, the logistics of this mini project of mine were a little dodgy anyway - our company has netscape as its default browser until sometime later this year... and the page would take forever to render with all those bloody buttons.
the important thing is that i learnt a hell of a lot from the buggers.
here's the nice, fast, neat (and rather boring) alternative ive done... http://reitsma.tripod.com/popout.html
alternatively, pictures can go there just as easily.. http://reitsma.tripod.com/popoutpic.html
i hope this consoles you. its a helluva lot faster.
