Anyone here take the brainbench online certification tests? They're kind of cool - I just took the HTML 3.2 test and got a 3.34... which makes me "competent" - I'm just soooo special (sarcasm, ok? :-)

Just curious to see what other people think of the site:

I got:
Name: Javascript Score: 3.4 Date: 2002-04-06
Scored higher than 88% of all previous test takers.

"Demonstrates a solid understanding of core concepts within this topic"

Whats the 3.4 out of ?

I'm not going to bother with this again, as last time I took it I was assured that I was only "barely adequate" in HTML and Javascript. I don't need this kind of abuse! ;-) Seriously, I suppose that if I had to go out and do job interviews it's be nice to get a nice high score, but I'd want to study somewhat, for me, I code by ripping bits from my own works, and I guess I don't always have the correct syntaxes memorized exactly, heh.

I'm basically the same... So was Einstein, who (by legend) didn't
even bother to remember his own phone#, saying "why bother?
I know where to look it up..."

I tend to remember "blocks of code" - like sorts and rollovers and
date computations... specific syntax, I tend to look up because
the "general idea" is usually more compelling for me.

as someone who interviews web programmers, i'd agree that the general concepts are much more important than knowing syntax. especially when it comes to html 3.2.

tooting my own horn, i just tried the quiz and received a 4.52 which is apparently better than 99% of previous test takers. the reason i can't really feel good about the result is that the test itself was extremely flawed. many questions didn't make sense (i must have guessed well) and about 10 of 40 questions were the same two questions asked in different ways. so don't feel bad if it told you that you are barely adequate: i can't even say the same for this test.

don't nobody waste your time or money on this site.
