i was *trying* to follow the doc's glass tute. However, i noticed that when i was fooling with the lighting effects it made weird circular shapes when the filter was applied. have a look: any help would be appreciated, thanks
elemental
nevermind! i was wrong, when i was doing this tute i had to go minigolf with my parents in between so i stopped and then i forgot to look on to see, and it just seemed so out of the ordinary that i didnt think it was normal, but enough excuses, i just didnt look ahead, goes to show why get the grades i do
[This message has been edited by elemental (edited 23-04-2000).] |

I presume you refer to the circular shapes created on your sphere when you turned it into 3D - as Doc explains in the tutorial itself, you give it 256 shades of grey and then use them to elevate it 100 levels. the proggy dont handle it well, and what you get are jaggy circles. the best way to handle it is using the Gaussian Blur - check doc's tutorial again, the method appears there and i think you missed it somehow.
If you refer to the circles created by the Lens Flare, i found it looks better if you blur it a bit.
Never Pet a Burning Dog |

For starters, you may want to try it a bit smaller -- that's a large area for lighting effects to handle and still get the proper effect. Also, like rend said, using the Gaussian Blur will help smooth out any irregularities that do slip in.
What care I how time advances? I am drinking Ale today. -- Edgar Allen Poe |

Yep yep, those are what I call "artifacts" from the 3D process, due to the 256 greys in the mask. A quick gaussian blur, with the area selected and black on the outside will fix that. See the tute again, I talk about what just happened.
"Artifacts". I like saying that word! Thanks!
|
