Preserved Topic: PS vs. ImageReady

Besides developing animated gifs, what are the differences between PShop 5.5 and ImageReady 2.0, and when is the best time to use each one? I have ImageREady, but never use it- I stick with PS, so far. . . .

ImageReady can write HTML and JavaScript. I was like you - PS 5.5 incorporated most of the Web stuff I thought I needed, and i didn't have much interest in learning a new app that seemed to overlap so much of what I use Phtoshop for.

Until......

I did my first site using image slicing and rollovers. Damn! ImageReady is the way to go! I know this topic has been visited here, with passionate opinions about handwriting JavaScript and tables to hold image slices together, and I don't want to re-open that can of worms. I mostly hand code and I dod re-work some of what ImageReady produced. But by using ImageReady to do the heavy lifting (optimising individual GIF slices before they were sliced, writing the complex table and doing a really ddecent job of coding simple rollovers) I saved hours and hours and hours of my time. I'm sure there's lots of priceless stuff ImageReady will do that I haven't explored (different layer effects than PS, slick button shapes and effects ...), but considering what it did for me, and considering it was free with PS 5.5 - just that one feature made my day!

Ok, thanks. Maybe I will start to incorporate it more in my work, but I am still set in learning to code by hand- its the only way to really learn.
