Hello all- good to be here!

I've got a dumb "newbie" question for you all. I've asked on the Designs by Mark message board, but have recieved confusing responses. So, I'll try Here!

I created a Navigator for my soon to be seen site. It contains several boxes (Home, about me, links, etc.)
This will be placed on the left side of my index page.
I want users to be able to click on an area and be transported to that area.

I am confused as to what to do AFTER I create the basic Navigator.

Do I slice it in Image Ready? If so, how? Do I save it in PS First? Do I export it as a GIF? Do I save each individual box?

??????????

I really have no clue after creating this thing as to what the heck I need to do next. If any of you good people could explain the following steps, I'd appreciate it.

BTW- what the heck are "slimies"???

1st things 1st -- slimies are our version of smilies..or emoticons...or whatever they call them other places. example: <img border=0 align=absmiddle src="http://www.ozones.com/forum/smile.gif"> <img border=0 align=absmiddle src="http://www.ozones.com/forum/biggrin.gif"> <img border=0 align=absmiddle src="http://www.ozones.com/forum/tongue.gif">

as to how to slice them up, well it kind of depends on exactly waht you have. if you could upload an image for us to view it would help. I don't have imageready so I can't help you with that, but it's relatively easy to slice them up just using photoshop.

give us somemore details and we can give you all the info you need <img border=0 align=absmiddle src="http://www.ozones.com/forum/smile.gif">

Hey heddaLettis, welcome to the Asylum!
You were right about having to slice up your interface. This is a long and difficult process though. If you're going to use photoshop, use the rectangular marquee tool, and select the areas one by one that need to be in different cells in the table, and save them as their own image. To make this easier, you can use the slice tool in image ready 2, or photoshop6/ir3 (not available yet).

After you get it all sliced up into different pieces (remember this was to get the buttons sepperated from the rest of the interface). You then make a table using HTML, and add all the images to it. If you need help with that, just ask.

Then you can export them as either .jpg, or .gif.

I'm not sure if I answered anything, so yell at me a bit and I'll get to it =P

Btw, after a while here you'll catch on about the Slimies thing. Actually, maybe you had to be here a while ago..

Newbie guide to image slicing!
1) Open yer image
2) Create guides the puts the boxes in...boxes(to do this make sure you have rules shown and click on them then drag the dotted line to place the guide)
3) Area by area select the boxes and such inside the image using the guides and copy merged them, create a new image(it should autosize) then paste into the new image(ctrl+v). then export the new image to your chosen file format: .gif is usually smaller and can be transperant, but have terrible quality, expecially if going transperant. .jpg are a bit bigger but have higher quality, though they can't go transperant.
4) Create a table for your leftside navbar...if you don't know how check out the source of http://punksoft.hypermart.net/ what I did there was made one large table with 2 columns, then put my navbar in one column and my content in the other.(don't look at the images...I made those in Paint Shop Pro in my early graphics days[Wait...I still am in my early graphics days..] and they kinda suck.)

If you don't have any mouseover's you can use the <map> tag to specify url's for sections of a picture. It's a really simple method, and this way, you don't have to slice up the image.

Thanks for the help, all!

I really appreciate it, and when (if) the time ever comes, I hope to return the favor.
