Well first off I am brand new to this Forum and I am 13(so in other words go easy). Ever since last year i have been fascinated by computers, and i started learning as much as I could as fast as I could. Finally I got into website and graphics design. I could make the site but with no graphics it didnt stand out. So for my birthday i asked for Jasc's Paint Shop Pro. I got it and i am probably considered advanced with it. I had known all along how much better Photoshop was but c'mon a 13 year old kid doesnt have much income. So finally I got Photoshop. Now I have had it a few days and have fittled around with it but didnt get much of anywhere. Ok i will stop rambling on about my history and get to the point. I just need to know the basic ropes of Photoshop to get me started as most sites have tutorials but no basic beginners guide. Tips, tricks, and basically help of any kind would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Hey, Welcome to the Asylum Kuraishi. It's nice to know that theres finally someone younger then me around here

I just started using Photoshop this year too.. I found, that for all the basics, it was easiest to play with the program myself. And to use all the filters, and all the tools. After I got the main idea of everything, I started reading tutorials online. I didn't read them to just get the effect that the tutorial was for, but each other of a tutorial had their own way of doing certain *basic* things. So the more tutorials I read by different people, the more little tips and tricks I learned, along with ways to make different effects.

Personally, I never liked any tutorials that said "basic". I think the very first tutorial I ever used online was the advanced interface design, from http://www.screamdesign.com/
Just from that one tutorial, I learned a lot about lighting effects, different ways to get the inset look. How to apply textures, how to make buttons, screws, screens, and a lot more. Now I'm rambling

Now, I'm not saying thats the best tutorial for begginers, infact, I'm not even recomending it. It's only an *average* tutorial. But what I'm trying to say is, that online tutorials are probably the best way to learn the basics, and the more advanced stuff. And most online tutorials are writen so, even if the tutorial is for advanced users, even a begginer can follow it, and get something that he/she is proud of.

Sorry, thats probably not what you wanted. But I'm tired, and don't care if I make sense =P

Heh, your rambling is fine with me because i always do the same. But thanks for the info I know what you mean. By looking at one tutorial for something you may never use you can learn how to utilize many effects, etc. BTW how old are you? Thanks again!

Hopefully I will have a sig soon. Hehehe

Well.. I'd recommend the first thing to do when you first get photoshop is read the manual. And if your the impatient type, just fiddle around with the tools and figure out which one does what and etc. This way you wont get confused with those provided tutorials.

I don't wanna sound rude, but did you just ask how to make rectangles? ...tisk tisk. It's called the marquee tool

I must be going blind early, the rectangles seemed to be irregular shapes.
