Hi everybody!

I am very new to Photoshop and got a little question ... how to make rounded shapes like this:

I don't wanna know about the shadow, the bevel or the texture ... just want to know how to make the rounded shape.
I played around with PS a lot but never found out how to do this.

Pen Tool...plain and simple.

Three anchor points with the pen, (one top, one center, but more to the right than the other two which should be even horizontally, one bottom) then adjust the bezier curves of each anchor by clicking on them and dragging out the adjustment arms (which can move independently to play with each section of the curve) to achieve the curves you want.

Go to the Paths Palette and either make it a selection, or stroke the subpath, using the dropdown menu on the right side.

Hope it helps.

Hi,

thanks for your reply.
I knew it was that easy

But I can't find the pen tool. Weird, eh?
I am using the German version of photoshop, and all I can find is the pencil and the line tool ... no pen tool ...

Use the pen tool to set some anchor points in a rough outline of your shape and then use the inverted 'v' tool to set the curves by clicking and dragging the anchor points and the handles that will appear off of them. The '+'pen adds anchor points and the '-'pen deletes them. Sorry about my terminology here, I'm at work and don't remember what Photoshop actually calls these tools, hope the descriptive names work for you At the bottom of the Paths pallette you'll find several buttons, the one that looks like a dashed circle (I think) will load your path that you make as a selection, then you can fill it or whatever you wanna do.

Takes most people a lot of monkeying around to figure these tools out, so good luck. Maybe you're a natural at it.

Perils of responding from work, you'll get caught working in the middle of a reply and get beat to it. Daggum!

If you want to spend the time learning Illustrator, you'll find it is very powerful at creating shapes of all kinds. You can easily transfer them to Photoshop by making them white-filled on a black background, and using them as channels.
