I redid my robot picture. I tried to add shading and light effects. Tell me what you guys think.

Ninja...Yep..it's shaping up.

Try to keep in mind a consistent light source (meaning it comes from one direction, and that's reflected by one direction of your surface taking the light, while the opposite takes the shadow)*

And also keep thinking about levels of shade and highlight...the more levels there are to it, the more realistic the lighting.

It's looking good..now keep going amigo.

*Addendum: more than one light source can occur, but just keep in mind the idea of consistency in how it "falls" on the image or in this case..the robot
