This is my small online portfolio. It contains Photoshop artwork (some you might have already seen). I mainly put it up for people that are thinking of hiring me to see.

Logic, it looks alright but I dont like all the text you have in your images. A lot of the fonts don't really go with the images.

mmm...dark.....like dark. Only one thing tho, it's tough to get clients when they think you are going to suck there blood or sic Igor on them.

As a personal portfolio it's great. As one for biz, you might have better luck with something a little happier, and more friendly. But it's up to you.

F1- One more comment like that and I'm going to sic Igor on you

Seriously though, I appreciate the comments. I understand what you are talking about, BUT this is my style, and if a client overlooks my skills because of the nature of my images, well then so be it. It hasn't happened yet, but I'm sure it might. Anyway, thanks =)

Jestah- I'm sorry, I just don't see what you're talking about. Everything looks fine to me

vogon- Yep, there is an image around the thumbnails. Let me see what I can do about brightening it up.

hmmm...nice work...comment for the site though:

surgeon general warns: moving the mouse to the back button causes diarhea, sever vomitting, and may contain carbon monoxide.

make those images open up in a little window that fits em perfectly in the middle of the screen...otherwise great...some of those would be good wallpapers reworked...also you might wanna have some kinda header other than the title bar of the page...

Good luck!

Hmm, the pieces show a high level of Photoshop prowess; they are visually interesting and well-done for what they are, but what kind of clients are you trying to attract? They don't show much in the way of web-design as there is no navigation or structure to speak of.

5 years ago those pieces really would have impressed me, nowadays they seem a bit cliche. I hope you don't take that too harshly, just harshly enough to really rack your mind to add some new ideas to your work. As bad as I make it sound it is probably a very minor thing, you should have no trouble getting as much work as you can do.

Maybe I'm just saying this because of my own fear of being swallowed in the vast seas of web designers out there today. With the vast expansion of the web, more jobs are being created faster than any event in the past has done, so I come from a strictly philosophical standpoint when I say that I don't really want to do anything unless it has some uniqueness to it that will make people stop and take notice. Ah well, now I'm just full of shit. Bored at work y'know?

l0gic: i'm going to kind of have to go with jiblet here...

i just looked at your pieces for the first time and smiled, they remind me a lot of the stuff i was doing about four years ago when i was getting into photoshop. like if you hit up my web site now and look at my 'digital gallery,' there's some similar stuff to what you've done... but the stuff i've got in there is really old and on my next site i'm actually going to put up my 'real' work.

if i had to guess, i'd say you've fucked around with photoshop for a while.. but really haven't developed a true feel for it yet. most people i know never develop a feel for photoshop actually, they just use it as a tool and are never really able to explore it to it's fullest extent...

what i'd say is stick with what you're doing though.. what comes naturally.. and over time you might develop a style that truly reveals your inner-self... that's when you start getting into 'fine art' versus 'commercial art.'

the stuff you have now is find and dandy though, it's commercial feeling and all.. but it works. just depends on where you want to end up.

sorry if that was rambling..

Uh, thanks for the comments I guess.

jiblet- I never said anything about web design. The reason there is no navigation in them is because there wasn't meant to be any. I am a graphics designer, not a web designer.

mikey- Well, I don't really know what to say.

I would really like to see someone who has just "fucked around with photoshop for a while" to produce anything even closely similar to the work in my gallery. I know you may not have meant to insult me, but I am affraid that you have. You make me sound like a fuckin newbie or something. Sorry to be harsh, but I guess my work will not meet your standards until I slap a few photos together and go "filter happy".

I'm done.

l0gic: you asked at the top for what people thought of your work... i just read your reply and thought maybe i was wrong, so i just went back and looked again.

you know what? it still looks like the stuff i was doing when i was 14 years old and playing with a copy of photoshopLE.

out of all your images perhaps the 1st one with the eye shows some potential, but i've seen ssooooo many images like that on the web that it's hard to take notice.

the rest of the images are 'feh' and they don't look like much effort was put into them. there's no depth to them, there's nothing extraordinary, they just lack anything that would make me want to look at them more than once.

you think i made you sound like 'a fuckin newbie?' well from the work i guessed you'd messed around with photoshop for a little bit...

but maybe i was wrong and it actually took you years of hard to get to that point.

if so, i'm sorry.

edit: and Logic... I actually didnt think your portfolio was bad at all.. but you have to remember teh title of this topic... you asked for critism/opinions..... please don't take offense.... I read Mikey Milkers comments and didnt think it was insultive at all.. thats the beauty of the 'forum'.... good or bad comments... they are all important and can be learned from...

cheers ~Vp~
