Sometimes it baffles me. I make some rather interesting designs in PS, but the enevitable factor comes in at the end... sometimes I can manage... other times I cannot.

So I wanna know... how do you guys minimize/erase your jaggies?

Always work with anti-alias. At least thats what I do.

Now for the big question, what are you making? (i.e. .gif .jpg .psd .bmp etc.. these all have different ways of elminating jaggies, to a point.)

gif's..... I mainly work with gif's...

When I make images that I know will be .gif files, I make my .psd like this.

Layer 1 or background: transparent
Layer 2: The "average" color of the background
Layer 3 and up: This is where I begin the image.

The first or background layer is transparent so that I can see what this image should look like when it it transparent.

The second layer is the "average" color. You can determine the "average" color various ways. If your image will rest on two different colors (like .sig files here in the Asylum) you make a two layer document with one layer being one color the next layer being the other color. Set your top most layer to 50% opacity. Flatten image.
The other way to make an "average" color (and this works great on textured images) is to place your texture on one layer and give it a few g-blurs (i.e. 6,4,2,1). Select the eye dropper and click anywhere in the center of your blurred texture. This is now your "average" color.
With both of these make note of the color you "created" by checking it's HEX code (the letter & number combo by the # sign) in the color picker. When your image is complete and you are ready to save as a .gif file, turn off your "average" layer (layer 2), go to Save for Web (Alt+Shift+Ctrl+S) In the Save for Web dialouge box there is a Matte drop box, select other and enter the HEX code. You should have no jaggies if you've done everything right.

keep checking the GN (see button at the bottom of page) I think an anti-jaggie tut is scheduled for over there sometime in the future.

jaggies can be frustrating but methods like F1 outline can go alongway to help.. plus I found with practice jaggies become less of a problem...

Yeah, I kinda wrote that...it's really meant for transparent gifs...
More of a theory thing than anything else... I'm gonna do another tut with my method for taking single .gif files and making them into transparent gifs. I've done this for a few sig's around here...
I did one for Skaarjj, one for Rinswind, one for Metahedron, one for petskull...etc.

Well... gotta hand it to ya F1.... you were right on.
