Preserved Topic: Need some advice...

Here 's my problem,my company finally got ps 6(japanese version)which is for me as a forigner here slightly difficult to get used to manual is japanese too.I asked for english manual ,and they told me they can get it only price is $35 plus postage ,fair enugh ,but on the other hand since I'm going to pay the money is it better to buy some other ps book, since I'm newbee could you be so nice and point me some good books.

Might want to try "amazon.com" and do a search for "Elaine Weinman & Peter Lourekas"

They did a pretty good quick and dirty... for PS5... don't know if they've done anything for PS6. But their book on PS5 is/was worth $20.us.

shwa: that's a good queston, one that it seems like there *should* be an easy answer to.

But, as so of then the case .... it's not that easy. The advantage tot he Adobe manual is that they try to be as neutral and broad as possible. The advantage to third party books is that they usually have a particular emphasis and go into depth in their niche. So you have to tell us what you intend to do with Photoshop, and then we can make recommendations. There are loads of outstanding books available (and yes, loads of trash as well). Do you intend to do print? Web? Design? Fine Art/illustration? There are books that speak to each of these. (And most will cost more than the figure you mentioned for the Adobe manual.)

Note that the on-line help in Photoshop is supurb. I personally respond better to books than on-line references, but if you want to know something, chances are it's right at your fingetips.

I will say one sure winner is the Classroom in a Book published by Adobe themselves. Pretty thorough and well though out. But as I said, if you give us some sense of what you intend to do with Photoshop we can be more helpful. I'm sure everyone here has a favorite or two. Or six

First thank you for the replys,well to tell you the truth main purpose for buying ps was web graphics (company want fancy page ),since I'm working as tattoo artist originality is the main point, we couldn't opted for those free stuff available on the net.I wouldn't restrict my self for this or that ,but for now i need basic stuff just to get
used to it ,i mean i follow few tutorials and they turn out right,but it took me 45 minutes to find paint bucket.

Hahahaha, that's funny shwa. I'm american, but I work with the german version from PS6. All the commands have different names, working the the tuts by Doc O and on GN just about made me go insane, it took literally weeks to find out exactly with layer effect was 'color burn', and 'screen', well, I'm still not sure which one it is. As for books, can't really help much there, 'cause everything that I've learned to this point (4 months, now with PS) comes from here and GN. Well, and a bit from WebDeveloper.com. As for the basics in PS, just hop in and get started. Hopefully we'll here more from you...how about a sig?
