Preserved Topic: Question on channels

I think i have the basics in why PS uses grey scale to evaluate colors. How does this break down in the individual layer itself.

Does PS duplicate the channels and assign colors to duplicated greyscale layers. Ive tried to apply some logic to channels but am still stuck on how they are managed.

I know i have to master channels and the greyscale logic before i can use PS to its potential.

I hope i asked the right question, channels are still a bit fuzzy.

How did you all master channels or am i walking down the wrong hall.
