Preserved Topic: How did he do it? (Page 1 of 1)

Hello all,

I am new to to the world of graphics and still trying to learn all the powers of Photoshop.
One way I try to learn is to look at another persons work and try to reproduce it (with no intention of distributing it as my own).

In the graphic at http://www.ozones.com/marbles/crystal.jpeg I can get everything except the light just to the inside of the blue corna.

Anyone care to explain?

hi and welcome!

Um the quick way would be, if I have your question correctly, to do a double Layer effect > outer glow, with the color set to blue. Or fill a circle with blue on a layer below and blur, copy layer and blur again, set both to either multiply or screen, maybe one to overlay - play around till you get it the way that you like.

Welcome Hologram! See THIS. I think that will help.

I'm assuming, since you said the light just *inside* the blue cornea, that you're referring to the whitish glow on the spere itself?

If so, here's one way -

- Select the transparency of the cirlce (ctrl+click on the layer)

- Inverse the selection (Select >> Inverse)

- On a new layer, fill with white.

- Inverse again.

- Gaussian blur, 4-5 pixels or so at that size (adjust according to size...)
- Repeat at lower setting. This will draw the white into the circle.

- Inverse one more time.

- Hit 'Delete' to get rid of what is outside the circle.

- Play with blending modes and opacity for that layer until it looks how you'd like it to.

I put some arrows on the image to try to better define where I am talking about. It is the white light just to the inside of the corona. The light is on the planets surface. In the .psd posted it would be the effect created in " layer 9 copy 2 " with the exception that it goes completly around the planet. http://www.mahjqa.com/stuff/emerald367854.gif

In the .psd file what are the arrows in the layers pallette just to the left of the thumbnail?

for the record, what I described above will get you that effect. You may need to tweak, of course.

hmm, looks like its just a inner glow filter.

Also for the record, I can assure you that Doc did not use the 'inner glow' layer effect (it's not a filter...)

was just saying on the outer rim it could be an inner glow filter and get the same effect and result.

I'm sure what you were saying was a valid way of doing it, but the question being asked was how the Doc did it, and using the Inner Glow layer effect does not fit the the Doc's creative style.
