Preserved Topic: Remove Shine from image (Page 1 of 1)

Hey guys,

My mind is not working well on this problem. I have this image that has some oily shine on this lady's forehead. I can't remember how to remove the shine.

Can anyone give me a kick in the butt and point me in the right direction? (yes I know DL-44 can kick some butt)

You might want to try the stamp tool...

Stamp tool would work, like Mahjqa suggested.

Depends on how much work you want to put in it, and how concerned about the result you are.

A "quick and easy" way would be to use Selective Colors (image>adjust>selective colors) Then choose "whites" at the top, and move the sliders till it look good. (I experimented a little, and something like -10, -1, +4, +34, absolute, looked ok to me)

new layer, set to multiply, sample similar colour on face, airbrush real low pressure, adjust opacity of layer to soften it and/or use a layer to soften the transitions (define area, fill black, use curves to transition to gray)

Well I am not DL-44 by a very long shot, but I guess you can take the (oh I forgot the name, its the tool that when you click on the image it takes its color and makes it your forground color, it looks like a little basting tool) anyway take that tool and get the color of the not so shiny part of the forehead, and take the air-brush and use some different texture brushes and set the opacity for really low and just brush around a bit.

Hey thanks guys. I did a bit of Selective Colors enhancement as ZOX recommended and then did some curves adjustments and toped it all off by using the blur tool (20% set to darken) to keep the highlights but tone down the gloss.

I did a 20 minute search for removing glare, but did not find anything like what I'm doing. I bet tomorrow I will find the perfect tutorial in just 30 seconds.

Yup, not bad.

The method is a good one - flexible and powerful, which is what you need for these things.

Personally, I would ahve started with a levels adjustment though(and would probably still do one now, as the image could use a little bit of a 'jump' to up the richness of the tones there - it feels a little flat all in all).

yep, DL... I have added the image to our company 'who's new' card and once in that file made a levels and tonal adjustment to match the look of the mailer. I will try to post a copy of that card for you all to look at in the next day or two.
