Lately I've been messing around a lot... Just random work. From left to right:

The eiffel tower, for a competition. (at http://www.pixel-zone.net ) Limitations: 128*128 canvas, five colors maximum. (including background)

Ol' Big Ben, for another part of the competition. Limitations: 128*128 canvas, 32 colors maximum, including background.

An eye, canvas size 36*36 pixels, unlimited colors. I love my wacom.

I can still resubmit the images for the competition, so if anyone here has any tips/recommendations to make them better, I'd like to hear so

Nice work, mahjqa.
The only nit-pic I have is the two faces on Big Ben don`t quite make a 90 degree angle, and the eye could use a bit of depth in the white part.
If you save as a clear gif, can you use the extra color ?

Docilebob;

>the two faces on Big Ben don`t quite make a 90 degree angle

Are you now referring to the real-life version?

>and the eye could use a bit of depth in the white part.
True.

If you save as a clear gif, can you use the extra color ?
I'm not really sure what you mean. The maximum amount of colors is set, regardless of the way you save it.

hmmm two things:

I. i wonder how you use your wacom for pixel art.

II. i dont think that the eye classifies as pixel art. but if you tell me you made it by putting pixel per pixel i believe you!

Nah, the eye isn't 100% pixel art. Some details and the green (hey, what do you call that, anyway) are, though.

No, I was referring to your rendition of it, not the real one. It appears that the two faces you can see are closer to a 96 degree angle, so that the other two faces would have to be longer to close the square. Maybe it`s just me. Don`t get me wrong. It`s really nice work. I like it. But I spend all day making 90 degree angles, and it just doesn`t look right to me.

On the color thing, if you don`t have a bg, you get to use one more color in your piece. Does that make sense ? I mean, 4 colors total = 3 for the piece, 1 for the bg; or no bg= 4 for the piece.. Is that cheating ?

once again i am amazed by your work and your attention to detail BUT what are the chances of changing the time on BIGBEN to 4:20? just a thought.

Greaty work, but one thing is bugging me... (It's probably just a personal thing)

The BigBen image seems to be composed a little high...

Personally, I'd like to see the lower aspect in its entirity, (down to the corner) and lose the extra stack at the top.
It feels a little off as it is.

The green in the eye btw: that would be the iris.

Much pixel coolness

and mahjqa ...... Excellent work, especially with Tower, and the big ben thing, correcting the angle would be too much work for little to nothing. The eye is a fairly weird looking though.

Been using the font much ? I was very disappointed when I didnt see it in your latest sig , only joking. Is it cool to use it myself ?

punchdrunk; why 4:20? Because of the answer to the ultimate question about life, the universe and everything?

Dufty; true, but as the heigth is max 128 pixels, I can't add more without removing the roof, which I've spent a lot of time on.

Hugh; A bit, thanks again. And I've been messing around with fonts a bit, currently 30% of my sigs use that font... so neh, I wanted to try something new.

A Question....
What package do you generally use for creating your Pixel art?

Nice work as usual, Mahjqa. I particularly like the Eiffel Tower.

Thanks for the posted links. I always wondered how sprites were made well. I can now make the characters from my favorite Nintendo games.

Do you use your pixel art in games?

Dufty; In general I use photoshop. It's useful for making the palettes, and I like working with layers. The whole thing cound've been done in MSpaint, though.

Moth; not this stuff, this is just a competition. I do make sprites for a game company, though. Not a big one, it's just a bit of extra work to earn a penny or two. Most of the stuff I make is just for practice, for fun, or to show off. Competitions are a nice combination of those three.

Well, I'd go insane...

I use to love getting in there and playing with my work at the pixel level but recently I always feel really boxed in when working like that.... Can't really say why.. Maybe I just don't do it often enough.
