Preserved Topic: Engraving In rock

I searched in the topics but nothing came up.
Can you plz give me suggestion about the graphic as a whole and tips for engraving the letters into the rock rather than just sitting on top.

Well, one thing you can try to help with engraving text would be to use a combination of layer styles on the text.

Bevel&Emboss
outer bevel
Chisel soft
depth: 80%
direction: down
size: 3
soften: 1
Gloss contour: Gausian
Contour: Linear

Inner Shadow
Drop opacity to about15%
distance: about 3
choke: 0
size: 0

Overall Blending Options
Advanced Bleeding
Fill Opacity: 0

This should provide a decent start to engraved text. My sample was done with BOOKMAN at 72.

You can fix that by making sure the white is high box is not checked.

Not to be mean but you really should look at the manual or a photoshop book before asking this sort of question. It is about as basic as you can get.

engraved rock

For this, I put a layer of black text overtop the rock, opacity about 50%, overlayed.
Then a white layer of text, about 50% opacity, overlayed.
Then another layer - black edging of text for highlights, set to about 80% opacity. This layer is set to normal.

I try to stress as much as I can what you should get out of a tutorial. Don't just pick up a few tricks to follow in order to get a canned effect. What you should be doing is trying to learn the underlying concepts and techniques, and thinking of ways to apply them to other projects.

If the tutorial you saw made the text pop up from the rock, then tap two brain cells together until they start to think, well, gee, if doing this and this makes the text pop up, maybe doing the reverse or the opposite will make the text pop down?

So, if you uncheck the box labeled white is high, PS will think that white is low, thereby pushing the text in toward the rock instead of out of it.

Also, amerasu's technique works well for giving that engraved look.

Now, ask yourself why adding three layers gives the illusion of the text engraved in the rock. It is basically adding highlights and shadows in order to create the illusion of being farther away from you than the surface of the rock.

Duck, Photoshop is a complex program, try learning the basics first. Then figure out why the basics work. Nobody becomes a graphic artist by just clicking on the filters.
