Preserved Topic: Arg, Photoshop help: color.

Hey there guys, I'm fairly new to photoshop, and the one basic thing I still haven't grasped is the basic changing of color in a photo. For instance; changing the hair color on someone, or chaning the color of a car. Id really appreciate any help or links to some tutorials. Thanks a bunch

Anyway.. about the color nonsense.
Well there's a number of ways to achieve solid colorizing effects. You'll have to take your time and play with them if you really want to get a good handle on it.

There's no real cut and dry "do it like this" method, so bear with the links I've posted and you'll find them extremely beneficial.
If you have a specific image that you're working on, don't hesitate to post it up...
a number of people here will likely jump in to give their opinions that way.

Tutorials arn't what you need here. What you need is to open up your manual, read up on selections, and layer modes.

The general idea, if you want to change the color or something, without losing the texture, select the area of the color, and either adjust the color on the image (using hue/saturation, or variations), or make a layer above, with the mode set to color, and fill the shape with a new color (or mixuture of colors).

Of coarse i remember you tax :P

I've had acceptable results by:
1. Create a dupe image
2. In the dupe, select the object with the color that you want changed.
3. Paint the selected object with the desired color.
4. Hold down the shift key while dragging the selected object into the original image.
5. From the drop-down dialoge box in the Layers palette, select Overlay

Welcome, midnitejam.
Just for informations` sake, You can`t delete your post. We had a problem with a member doing that a while ago, and the result was that only Mods can delete anything.
But since there is now a reference to it that may contain potentially useful info, we`ll leave this one..





<edit> Oh, yea. You can get good results sometimes by just painting the subject with a brush set to Color mode, or filling the selection of same on a layer set to color</edit>

Don't forget about the hue/saturation technique.

open photo.

Hit the letter Q (enter quick mask mode)

paint over the area you want to to change color.

Hit Q again (exit quick mask mode)

invert the selection (select>>invert... Shift+Ctrl+I)

Hit Ctrl+U (Image>>Adjustments>>Hue/saturation)

and colorise till happy. This method will retain 90% of all reflection in metal.. etc.
