Okie....
down here we voted.... http://www.ozoneasylum.com/Forum3/HTML/003081.html
and here's the prototype for the first versions of the project.
What we need from the inmates now, is a female version.......
It should be in the same style as this version of the male... so you might want to use it as the basis to go off of.

We won't be going through an elaborate process to pick the female version... so get your ideas in quick... and the ball will roll within a day or two.... If you've wanted to help out... now is a great chance to fill a gap...
Step up... and let's have some female versions..

I wouldn't recommend making any big changes to the silhouette as most of the clothes will be pretty unisex so I would recommend (highly) that you base it on the male template.

I'm gonna go ahead and agree with Michael & Emps. You should stick to the silhouette. That said, DG has had the best revision so far.

Three possible solutions present themselves here:

1: Ditch the need for a singular silhouette and simply design two versions of the "unisex clothing" to meet the individual curves. We could implement an auto-switch when they choose which body type they want.

2: Trim down the male archetype for the trooper, since the 14 yr old contingent, and most of the rest really aren't looking at hardened abs and a broad chest and shoulders when they eyeball the mirror.

3: Let a female design a more feminine and realistic body type so that the testosterone imbalance doesn't keep presenting what a pathetic flock of boys this place looks like from the outside. Dig?

Or we could just deal with the inequities of the body shapes and deal with a bit of a feminine male form, and a bit of a masculine female form...as Stor did.

Just a thought.

DG: On your solutions:

1. That would be pretty inconvenient and was something I was hoping to avoid (at least at this stage).

2. This seems a reasonable option.

3. I'm with you there

4. Although not numbered this would probably be my preferred route (similar to 2).

Puts a rusty pfennig in the collection jar for DG.

Perhaps a gif overlay of a neutral shadow to imply free-flow of material on those unisex versions could be added.

My concern is that your typical pre-teen/teenager (the people most interested in this kind of thing) jumping on the societal bandwagons regarding sex appeal are going to want to see a curvy-like female, and an athletic-type male.

If a psd is given to those who participate, we could include channels for the sillhouettes, and have people design simple and flexible wardrobe items for both figures and clip them based on the channels. Or just have material concepts designed, and have one person in charge of the clipping. I don't think this would be a huge task, and I think it will influence it's market better.

Take, for instance, a skirt...The female figure will look like a cross-dresser in a 3-point stance.

This is just my honest opinion however, and the powers that be can take this as just my 2 cents...

Thumper: Thats all a good idea but the current push is to develop a protoype and make sure the client-side and server-side coding is all working nicely. We can play with the prototypes and add complexity once we have the whole thing figured out - some things may not be practical to implement so we want to keep it simple at this stage. That way we will be able to play around with the basic system to see what is and isn't pratical. Lets be honest of we went for 3 different builds and 3 different heights on two different silhouettes then each item of clothing would have to be done 19 times and the coding could get exponentially more complex but they are issues we will deal with once we know we can get the basic setup working.

DG's idea to keep the same silhouette sounds good but doesn't really work with the existing models. I agree that if both were made more androgynous that would be a good idea.

However, looking at them now, the first change appeals to me more. Here is a brief study using some practice clothing. Nothing special, just painted over the silhouette with some colors.

I'm sure that once more detail is added to the clothing it will look much better, however, looking at just the silhouettes the figures seem a bit boxy in the first image. The second one appeals to me more.

Also, here is a no-clothes version of the second image. I did some minor modifications: removed one pixel from each had to avoid conflicts with body, changed female figure's hands to appear less clawlike.

my first thoughts: o looky , lil hobbits robbed a clothing store

anywho yea i def think we should just get to the fact that there is alot betr results if we take the time to seperate the feminine template and clothing.. how often do men and women wear the same darn clothes, (and sure lots of u are saying pretty often but ur not thinkin right if ur comparing it to how often men and women are wearing their own clothing correspondant to their gender)

but i like the sleeker feminine temp there, makes it seem alot more realistic than the shim/heshe

Here is what I propose to streamline the textile manufacturing process...

I have created alpha channels in this PSD file so that coloration of the clothing for both male and female forms are just a matter of using the fill tool. Click and that's it! The alpha channels have silhouette clothes for both figures and saving is just a matter of deactivating layers, cropping, and then saving.

Some examples:

Here are the channels:

Here is the layer view:

If anyone adds to this, please separate everything into layer sets to keep things organized. The accessories and what not should also be alpha channels so that the coloration process is fast.

The PSD is here...

I think this will make things quicker, and we can keep the female form looking like a woman...

Here is an example:

Let's not forget people of color...

edit: Old Navy add-ons...

The upper-body shadows can be deactivated as well, re-colored, etc...

Blimey there are a lot of eager beavers - good work Thumper that should come in handy at some point but for now we really do have to have unisex clothing and a more similar male and female template (although that is getting there) so that we can make sure that everything works together properly.

For testing, of course, do whatever needs to be done.

I think the best option for the finished product would be to ahve seperate body shapes though.

Androgeny is fine too, but right now, the body is very certainly male. We'll need a slimmer version for unisex.

I am going to go 100% with DL-44 on this, in that inevitably the finished work should have 2 separate forms. Even though most of the anatomy is wrong in these people, 2 and 2 is 4. A starved skin and bone male will always look like a male, and an obese woman will always look like a woman. You have hips and waist to account for as well, and the female form (obese or not) is severely more pronounced than a male's.

i'm all for equality of opportunity between the sexes, but across ethnic/racial groups -
1) males are taller than females.
2) females have longer legs than males - when you have a male and female of the same height, she will have longer legs than he does and he will have the longer body..

so before voting, could we have more options than those posted above?

vr: The reason I've asked for them to be similar is that we aren't creating a finsihed version for the Asylum we are creating a prototype version and by keeping the two figures similar we make the coding much simpler. Once we have a working prototype then we can work on making more complex pixel people and a more complex code but for now we really need to keep things simple.

How exactly are you supposed to make a male and female look similiar. I think it would be a good idea to have two seperate entities, with different clothes for each. I know the coding would be harder, but it seems almost necessary.

GN: If you look at the original stortroopers you'll see they were actually similar. Once we have things working properly then we can work on adding more differences, etc. but at this stage it is just adding extra complication - I'm just trying to get things moving and the more complications at this stage the less likely it is that anything is going to happen. Remember this is only for the prototype and not the finished product.
