I am a fresh fish in the world of graphics with all the tools and no knowledge. I AM ADDICTED TO IT
I have over 10 programs from Flash 4 to Adobe Photoshop to Max.

I have been getting a grasp of Photshop and now I'm spending more time with Max, since then I have left Photoshop alone like a step child Should I stay w/ photshop for awhile longer cause Max is way over my head, even the beginner tutorials are to tough for me?

I have a beatuful daughter to take care of and a steady job so going to school for Max is out of the question at this time. So please let me know what you think, remember I want to know it all when it come to web design and graphic design so this is why I ask such an opinionated question. I just need to know where to start. Thanks----

PS: I love the web design of this site!

Chad,

imho, i wud start with photoshop and get your feet wet.

since you didn't say what your graphic exp. was coming into this i am assuming...zip.

it is very easy to get very overwhelmed by all of it! take it a bit at a time.

everything takes time.

can you give us a better idea re what your graphics skills were prior to getting all the graphics packages?

Zip, Ziltch, Nota! I didn't know a darn thing until about 6 months ago I slowly got into it. What got me started was making tracks for a game called Motorcross Madness 2. You needed a paint prog like photoshop to make you Displacment maps and import them to "armadillo" there you would put the textures hay bail and different objects in the track. So then I kinda branched off into graphic design, making web pages....that kinda thing. I have the book "Classroom in a Book" whih is a great book for PS.

I'e done a few tutorials and came up w/ stuff like this:
(well nevermind that????..........how do you paste things to here?????)
OK well I read the ubb code thing>Don't understand it though...how do I go about pasting a .gif or .jpg to this forum. Or assign a URL(?) to it.
Step by step please...not very computer savvy when it comes to big words and instructions. THanks

When your posting, there is a link to the left of your reply that says *UBB Code is ON, click that for details on UBB code.

I'm pretty new to 3d world myself and luckily have the option to go back to school. But from what I've read about the industry(which is quite a bit) you should definatly keep with Photoshop. There is no way you know even half of PS after only 6 months. I've been at it for over 4 years and even though I know the IDE like the back of my hand, I still learn new things about it all the time. anyways, you will need photoshop for lots of things in the 3d world, like textures, backgrounds, bump maps, etc... And there is no better program to do those things on.

Welcome to the asylum.

Thanks Drakkor

Unfortunately I did read the UBB instructions for posting pictures here, but I didn't understand how to do it

Do I go to PS and make a slice on the picture and sign a URL to it? And if so do I need web space and a active domain name to do this? If someoen is really nice and really bored maybe you could post a step by step tutorial for me here

That would be a good lesson for me!!!! (I just remembered I was in the 3d forum not PS....o' well- worth a shot

Hold on, chad. You make web pages, but you can't figure out how to post an image? Ahh, the joys of WYSIWYGs.

Well, in order to post an image you have to have it hosted on some type of web server. You can go to any of the free sites and upload an image, then just put a link to it here or post it as an image. You know what a link is, right?

As an example, the smile smilie is at http://www.ozoneasylum.com/smile.gif
That's the URL of the image. Anyway, one you have the URL for the image, you can post in these two ways.

The first as a link
text here

The second as an image itself

Just click above where it says to edit this post to see the actual code used.

Enjoy

As for your first question, I'd definitely go with PS first and then get into 3D. It'll be much easier if you have a working knowledge of PS.

Ok Silence...Where did you read that I make web pages? Trust me I don't....would like to learn though, lol.

You are way ahead of me bud. What sites have free space first off? (I know I sound like a dummy, but I'm not going to get anywhere unless I ask) And second I know what a link is but how would I post it to the free site...just go there and find my picture and make up a url for it...then paste link here!

Ok I'm going to try something here> So don't mind this, lol :

Sorry about that chad, in your earlier it said

Anyway, you got the basics down, but UBB code doesn't use tags in angle-brackets <> so you just need the square bracket ones [].

And don't worry about asking questions. Some of the guys/gals in here might give you a hard time, but they know their sh#t and they usually give very constructive criticism.

As far as getting an image hosted, just go to geocities.com or angelfire.com or yahoo.com and sign up for a free webpage. They should have instructions there, and I'm sure there are other sites to check out. They'll also have instructions on uploading images and such. Once you have that done, you should be good to go.

Oh, and welcome to the asylum
