"When they were extracted from the crystals in a laboratory and placed in a nutrient solution, the micro-organisms revived and began to grow."

Interesting... to say the least.

That's how I got here.
They just placed me in a nutrient solution and I grew...it was really quite simple. This article of yours makes it seem like this is a big deal. HARDLY!
These scientists don't know nothin'.
250 million years? Those bacteria are still pups....

That's very interesting. A while back I posted the idea about life not originating on Earth. It seems like this discovery really supports that *possibility*.

One thing that did scare me though, did they consider that reviving these ancient organisms could potentially be dangerous? I sure hope they keep these little buggers isolated.

Hehe -
Can you imagine a couple of lab scientists in the lab - daring each
other to eat them??
(C'mon - chicken? I'll give you $5.00...)

actually, bugimus, the X-files dealt with this idea.. i recall one story about micro-organisms in an ice core and another with green flying organisms uncovered when an ancient tree was cut..

I'm not sure, but I think Gary Larsen also dealt with the idea.
