Hoo boy. That, my friends, was rough. There were a total of 19 sigs that I considered, and most of them were pretty good. In fact, there were so many good sigs that it was too difficult just to pick which one I liked the best. So what I did was go through all the sigs and judge them in five different categories: Creativity, Artistry (included how well the sig fit in with the Asylum), Pain (I did say the more pain, the better, right?), Size, and Theme. The last two categories were only given half weight; it was more like a way to penalize sigs for being too large (both in height and pixel size) and off-topic.

Anyway, I'm not going to list the scores here, I just wanted to let you know how I went about doing this. In spite of all my careful planning, though, I ended up with two sigs tied for first and two sigs tied for third, so I had to make some hard choices anyway. So, without further ado, here are the results:

Second Runner Up

Schitzoboy's Stick Figure Torture Fest

This sig got the highest creativity score, and I got a real kick out of it. The creativity involved here was why it got chosen over the sig it was tied with for third (and since it was a good sig, I'll give it a mention--it was Raptor's Rack).

First Runner Up

docilebob's Knotted Thread in the Eye

Again, deciding between second and first place was rough, since the two sigs got the same score according to my judging scheme. docilebob's sig got high marks because it made me wince, and that gave it a high pain score (tied for highest with a few others). It was also quite small for an animated sig, which saved it from penalties in that area.

And, finally, the winner of the June Sig Contest (drumroll please)...

Amerasu's Ye Olde Thumbscrew

It was a tough choice, but Amerasu's sig fits the theme perfectly, is not too big, and has the perfect blend of creativity, artistry, and pain. And, of course, it made me wince.

Congrats to the winners, and kudos to everyone who entered this month. There were a lot of sigs that I liked, and it would be nice if they could all win, but that would kind of defeat the purpose of a contest. If anyone wants to know their exact score and where the placed in the overall scheme of things, please e-mail me. This thread is not for such requests, it's for congratulating the winners and adding your comments on the contest.

Thank you, everyone, I really had a blast this month, and I hope you all did too.

Suho1004: Great choice - congrats to Amerasu And another placing for SB - one of these days

Despite some high quality idiocy this month it was a great theme and produced a lot of great entries (I wasn't envious of your having to judge that one). Anyway well done

Amerasu: Great sig (and your first sig competition?) - I'm updating the FAQ on this month's competition:
http://faq.ozoneasylum.com/521/

Can I host your sig locally for the records?

[edit: Also remember I am still seeking previous winners so I can host their sigs in the FAQ and that includes you there Suho1004. If people don't want me to do that then that is fine and I'll stop harrassing you just let me know ]

Wow! Thank you! With all of the fantastic sigs displayed I wasn't sure how I'd do or how you'd manage pick a winner. It was a fun contest though.. I've never made a twisted gory pic before, never had an excuse to, lol. So thanks for the experience

My personal fave was Schitzoboy's stick figure bloodfest. Brilliant.

Emperor - Sure, you can host it locally. No, this wasn't my first contest. I entered one a while back. It was the "Wheels" contest I believe.

I'll have to check the FAQ and see what sig subjects have been covered in previous posts. I'll post a new thread shortly.

Thanks again, Suho!

Amerasu: Thanks FAQ updated. If you entered a previous contest was it under another name (as that one was registered June 2002)?

[edit: I'd guess you were previously registered as sal no?]

Anyway well done and we look forward to seeing what you come up with for this month's topic - previous topics are listed here:

Emperor - Yep, that's correct. I wanted a different user name and couldn't change it so I re-registered. Amerasu is one of my characters in an online RPG, and a Tad Williams character in one of his book series. Better than 'sal'

Emperor: You know, I had been thinking the same thing myself (having sigs hosted locally). I must have missed that the first time around. Anyway, it's a great idea, and yes, you can host my sig. That will make it easier for me to link to from my FAQ cell.

Amerasu: No, thank you--for your contribution to the pool of talent here. It was a very tough choice, but in the end I had no doubts about your sig.

Schitzoboy: Congrats on your placing yet again. Your sig was actually in the lead until later on in the contest. It was a great entry. Now let's just hope you don't become the Phil Mickelson of sig contests!

[Edit: Amerasu, I just check out this month's topic--very nice! And I wasn't going to enter this one...]

Congrats, Amerasu. Well done.

Suho : You, too. You did an outstanding job of handling this cluster-f**k, you did it with dignity and integrity, ( not sure I would have) AND had some tough choices, to boot. Many great pieces this month. Great topic, too. I had WAY more ideas than I had time for. ( I try not to think about what that means..)

Suho1004: I've been seeking the winning sigs in the Big Sig FAQ thread (but perhaps people haven't bothered reading it if they thought it was just being bumped) - anyway thanks for permission the sig is now hosted locally at:

[edit: Oh and I've updated the sig contest to reflect that]

docilebob: Thanks, man. Those words really mean a lot to me after the mess that was the June sig contest. I think that may have been the best compliment I have received since I joined the Asylum.

Emperor: Um, I guess I was one of those people who didn't bother reading it... oops.
