hi..
I was just wondering what kind of text editors you guys use.
Just looking for some good tips. I use ultraedit or coldfusion studio now and are very happy with that, but maybe there is a awsome editor out there that i dont know of....

MAX's HTML Beauty++ ME (my own HTML editor)

Cool... what kind of languages does it support? (color coding)

Max's is very nice, but I can't live without the FTP support in UltraEdit.

I use EditPlus... I can't live without it, color codes most languages I know... well... actually all the languages I know... so it works pretty darn good.

Chris, MAX's HTML Beauty++ ME currently has syntax highlighting for HTML, JavaScript, Pascal (Delphi), external Style Sheets, Perl / CGI and SQL files (more to come).

Linear, next version of HTML Beauty will be able to open files from http/ftp and save back to ftp...

Must say I've been lax in trying HTML beauty but I too am a huge fan of UltraEdit.

I use both Max's program and Ultraedit. I recently discovered the fact that you can use regular expressions in some of the search/replace functions in UltraEdit. That really came in handy when I needed to replace a slightly different line in each of 400 open files!

Extended Find & Replace from HTML Beauty also have support for PERL-compatible regular expressions...

I'm still getting used to Max's Beauty. Guess I need to dive deeper.

Speaking of which, a friend told me that his company blocks the Max site because of the wallpapers....hehehehehe

Ahhh, I hate such companies! It just shows how some people in charge are very short minded...

I always have to look around to make sure none of my kids are in the room before I go to Max's site.

I tried UltraEdit, but it seemed, well, clunky
(Are those boos I hear?? :-)

TextPad (IMHO) is VASTLY superior, and free (yes,
completely free).

The java folks at IBM that I know absolutely SWEAR
by "SlickEdit" - they use it instead of VisualAge
for Java/C/C++ although I never tried it.

Most of my UNIX editing is with VI.
To give you an idea of my background with VI/UNIX,
try typing "Kevin Carothers" (quoted) in a
search engine (eXcite, altavista, blah blah).

I swear by EditPlus for Java. If Max had java color coding, then it would be Max's, but the Java color coding is what seperates me from Max's...

Just makes code readabilty jump to new levels.

Textpad doesn't look free to me:

By the way max, I never did get your editor to work. I can give you the error again if you want it.

Slime, no I didn't mix up Java & JavaScript. Originally, in early alpha stages, HTML Beauty had syntax highlighting for Java files, but as I don't use Java, I couldn't test it throughly (syntax rules, that is).

Oh, it would be good if you can re-post the error message...

Well max, if you get Java color coding I am sure I could get a lot of users who would be glad to tell you of all the errors that result

Ahhh, but there is no "evaluation time-limit", and it's not "time bombed".

WarMage, I'll contact you when I release non-public test version with Java syntax highlighting...

KevinCar, TextPad may not have any limitations in the evaluation period, but what about this part of the agreement: "must pay for the software if you decide to keep it"?
