finally my "never-ending" project is online. www.embege.com/imsnuke
this is what i worked for from october til early this month. it is a forked version of www.postnuke.com using some added features by me.

i wanna use this opportunity to say thank you once again to all of you who helped me out with php, js and apache problems here and in the dhtml-forum in the last few months. nearly all questions i posted here (and there were many!) were for this project.

no problem with being curious. i'm glad when someone is interested in my work!

it comes as a module for phpnuke which is not fully compatible with postnuke.
in my version the module is installed with the kernel itself. it is working with the postnuke admin interface and it is using postnuke themes, so you got the feeling it is part of the kernel.
also i added the feature to insert links (autolinks) from your database into your documents. you can also change the style of the table of contents in many ways.
then you can add tables to your documents (real MySQL tables, so you can modify them and do multiple using in other documents).
furthermore you can allow comments to each documents, so users can give you feedback to every single document. you decide which one.
also images are possible. database ones as well as linked ones.
finally you can use a dhtml/css based wysiwyg editor for authoring your documents (IE5.5+ only)

besides document juggler imsnuke comes with a preinstalled phpBB-module (a highly customized forum, like the asylum) and an events calendar for managing events and dates in your community.

Good work. I wish I had the time to download it and play around with it. I am in the planning stages for my own CMS, which of course begs the question, is there something out there that already suits my needs?

Anyway, the goal of my CMS is twofold: a) A work-order/tickler tracking system that allows pages to expire and the designer to be notified based on various criteria & b) A flexible templating system that keeps the code clean, but doesn't limit the designer in any way, and can be installed on an existing site without modifying the existing pages (except for maybe adding one line of PHP code). One of the key components will be an administration template which lets navigate around your site as normal, but has an administration 'frame' (more likely just a table) that will let you edit common page and header elements more efficiently than opening each file in a text editor (META tags, TITLE, ALT attribs, BODY, etc...).

I still haven't even settled on fundamental design issues (will it be exclusively PHP or will the parser be Perl? XML or <META> tags for storing critical information? The syntax for templates...). WHen I'm done I want to release it as open source, then make a business out of selling designs and maintenance using the system.

More succinctly I am trying to combat the inefficiencies and quality control issues that I've discovered in developing and maintaining a 250+ page site by myself for the last 2 years. Sound at all like what you've done GRUMBLE?

jiblet, if you got the time you should download imsnuke and try out the webbased wysiwyg editor for documents. it does exactly what you want. works like ms-word just outputs everything to html.

for your other criteria, i think postnuke can already do things like this.

nevertheless, its always good to make a cms that specializes on something. like imsnuke specializes on long-lasting, structured content.
