I'm not sure if this belongs here but if it doesn't, please accept my apologies.

I have this project at work where I'm to implement a search feature on our internal site to allow our users to run a search on one of our network drives. We have IIS and I am not sure how to start on this. Your advise would be highly appreciated.

Thanks.

This sounds like it needs to be in the server-side forum, so I'll send it over that way =)

Rice: Do you have anything else like PHP or CGI? There are a wide range of solutions avalable - see this FAQ for some useful resources and ideas:

How do I get a free site search engine for my site?

Also check out MS Index Server - it will run with IIS and ASP and will index your site from the inside via the filesystem rather than trawling the URLs. It also supports a lot of file types, and is good for indexing e.g. shared word and powerpoint documents.

Be warned that Index Server, like many other fine MS products might still have some nasty security bugs in it, so usual precautions apply. Last time I looked, it came packaged with NT4/IIS, but I wouldn't know where to look on anything more recent.

I haven't worked on PHP before although I did install CGI script in the past. I will definitely look into Index Server. Doing my research, I found out that it's available in W2K. I don't have any other resources to use at this time other than Microsoft stuff. I'm just glad I don't have to use Frontpage for the htm pages! Thanks again! I'll come back if I encounter any problems and hope to meet more members who have experience with IIS.
