Topic awaiting preservation: MS Access for noobs?

I know, more than half of my topics are questions about something computer-wise, but its just that you are so far my most reliable source for that sort of information.

Anyone knows about some site or book that could explain in a child-like manner ms access? I am trying to store all my dad's contacts, products and queries, but sometimes it gets to a point it becomes labyrinthic and unexplanative for someone who isnt quite literate in databases.

He has around 200 customers atm. Products are around the 150. My problem itself isnt store the data, is actually put the invoice information. I am having hard time to understand how to connect stuff with each other.

I could do this quite fine in excel, just put all the -relevant- customer info in one sheet, the products info in another sheet and then just make the call through a simple formula in the actual invoice. However, i have like 250+ xls file for each invoice, which is a mess. I'd rather have some better knowledge about real databases for actual organization.

I'll try to see what can I find about relational databases. the more I know about them, the better. I am just using access becasue thats the best thing I have around. The more I learn about dbs and bother myself to learn an actual programming language, the better.

EDIT: And don't worry, unless your comment was quite irrelevant, usually all answer that somehow leads me to somewhere is a good one.

Databases are not easy. If the access for dummies does not work you might have to look further into some basics of databases. If you want some more information on the topic and have more specific questions jump down to the server side forum and ask your DB questions there. If you need a whole lot of information send me a message on Q, I am sure I can help you out with it.

I'll be looking for that book (or anything similar) in the local stores. I already found a few sites with slight documentation on access (97, but seems dsome concepts are quite common), and its getting less harder than the beginning .

I refuse to use MSN... Really sorry, I am not all that hard up against microsoft but MSN is just one thing I won't do, the butterfly just ticks me off. People have enough trouble getting me to use ICQ on a regular basis. You can always email me if that is easierl dan (NO SPAM) codetown.org just replace (NO SPAM) with the @ symbol.

I can not stress how important normalisation is when designing the database.

Many students dive headfirst into learning the program giving no heed about how the data
is going to be organised.

Its a matter of spending a few hours designing your database to save yourself tens if not hundreds
of hours in the long run.
