Okies, I didn't find it at ->feedback or ->grailTodo so, on to the personal opinion: I hate the new ranking system. Previously, the post count didn't matter that much to me, didn't give one more privileges either, but instead, reflected the activity of inmates. To me at least. Now I have no way to know who are the most active inmates, the least actives, etc.. I hate the idea of Mad Scis with Finglongers: I always thought finglongers should belong to one person only, the Doc, for some of the current finglonfers happened to lack wisdom like we all do on occasions, and I "feel" banning features and such are part of the new Asylum. Which I believe, correct me if I am wrong, to be something the Doc didn't want at all: I was quite disappointed at WK being banned, or some of the Zigotry, this finglongers thing makes me feel like I was browsing somethingleet. So, while being gratefull to those of you who created this new Asylum, I really am scared at possible finglongers abuses, accidents, and other oddities. And now, the technical problem: From this list: Neurotic (1 in 7 chance of advancing) Obsessive-Compulsive (1 in 49) Nervous Wreck (1 in 343) Bipolar (1 in 2401) Paranoid (1 in 16807) Maniac (1 in 117649) Lunatic (1 in 823543) Schizophrenic (1 in 5764801) Demented (1 in 40353607) Certifiably Insane (1 in 282475249) I "guess" TP used powers of seven. A nice exponential progression, but let's do some statistic calculation. Let's say one user is now Lunatic, posts 1 post per hour, and gets an average 10 more point per post, because the random function decided to return numbers between 1 and 20 for some time. It would take hime ten years to become a Schizophrenic. Now, from demented to CI, the same simple formula says: 3224 years for him to be a CI. So, obviously, if he only got one more point per post as an average, it would only take him 32240 years to be a CI. You can play around a lot with this, but anyhow, I think it is too extreme as a measure: I find that obsession about "nasty trolls who think postcount matters" depressing, to say the least, and I think the above problem is... a problem. A real one. Mad hatters names are a touch of fun: how fun is it to never hop to the next level? I wonder. How important is it that mad hatters don't focus on their post count? Not displaying the post count would have sufficed imho, if all this matters at all. Now, I understand the finglonger who had this idea has his reasons, and am looking forward to reading those, so my suggestion is: let's "balance" the randomness of the function, to avoid having it stick to low values as in my example. It could easilly be made to "gravitate" around the middle of the range of possible values.
