I need some easy instructions for creating a pic of text with a transparent background in photoshop 8.0. I have tried and tried and tried. It almost always comes out with a white background.
For example: I would like a box shape with colored text (transparent back ground) to go on my web page.
I tried to use paint and match the colors of my page with the background and apparently they don't match on someone else's comp.

Please help me
Would sooooooooooo appreciate any input!

Try this out, from within the "Hands On tutorials" link at the bottom of the page: http://www.handson.nu/HTML/transparency.shtml

1) Make sure that the background of your PSD is transparent.

2) Use "save for web" and make sure to save it as a .GIF, and set it to transparent, and set the Matte Color to the color (or approximation thereof) of the page on which it will be displayed.

The Hands-On transparency tutorial, while great, may just confuse you at this point since some of the things it relies on are not present in 8.0. It's worth a read, as you will still learn from it though.

Transfer it to Image Ready and save it as either a 24bit PNG or a gif. Task completed . I don't have PS CS, though. To set the format use the Optimization pallette.

Why would you waste the time to transfer it to Image Ready when PS is fully capable of saving transparent .GIFs and PNGs?

And how would transfering it to IR solve what seems to be the inherent problem of improper setup?
