Topic awaiting preservation: How do you draw a circle?

There may be a simple answer to this, but it seems to escape me.

How do you draw a circle in 6.0? I don't mean a filled ellipse; I want to draw a round line, as it were, with only the circumference visible and the center transparent (think the letter 'O'). I don't want a filled shape like I get with the ellipse tool.

Well, you can use the Elliptical Marquee Tool ( shortcut = M ) and press SHIFT while selecting a disc, then Fill the selection ( SHIFT + BackSpace ) , contract it by 1px and Clear ( BackSpace or Delete ).

I don't know if the next method is already available in the v6.0, but in the v7.0 you can use the Ellipse Tool ( shortcut = U ) and press SHIFT while selecting a disc, then Stroke the Path.

Otherwise, you can search for "circle" in the Help of Photoshop

As poi said use the Elliptical Marque Tool to layout your circle.

Another option then is to go to Edit and then select Stroke.

sib: Thank you, I always forget the selection behaves somewhat like the paths.

Use the circular shape tool to draw your circle. Double click the layer to get into the advanced blending options. Turn the fill to 0%. Click on "stroke" and set a stroke for the object in the size and color you want. Now you have a circle that you can resize and recolor at will without any quality loss.
