Boy, I love these quickie half hour projects. Got the idea for this one from http://www.random.org/

http://www.rpi.edu/~laporj2/noise.html (refresh for a new image)

Nothing too fancy, though since XBM's are easier to manipulate than I thought, I may be using them more. However, I can;t seem to get this script to run in Opera... any ideas?

Oh, yes it's possible. My very first javascript raycaster ( done in late 2001 ) was in XBM [edit] actually I generated all the possible slices in XBM [/edit], so is Wolfenstein 5K by Lee SEMEL.

Updated with animation, though I used a bit of a hack to make the image refresh each time... is there a better way to do it?

Kewl as. I had long ago given up trying to find an XBM equivelant for IE back when I was primarily using netscape4. Here is a resurrect script (or should I say totally rewritten as I lost my original version).

Can you guess what it is? :-)

Afraid not. A limitation of the XBM image format is it's lack of color.

Hahaha, awesome. I didn't get it to work in Firefox, though it ran without trouble in MSIE. Very sweet. Especially with the loader percentage.

I've been working on colors. best I can do is 3.... still working.

Thanks for the comment. I figured the % counter would be beneficial. It allowed me to know how long until I had before it was necessary to look at the screen again. I was going blind with non centering problems....

How do you manage that?

Yes, you cheated. Nice use of MSIE effects. I wonder if there's a cross-browser way of doing similar, though.

Cross Browser is like Cross Dressing: I do not do it.

Ok, my last one. It's 6:30am. Maybe I can get 2 hours sleep today.

Bigger and slower but it's got dynamic resizing with respect to the winow size. Oh, and a nice little progress bar too.

Hehehe, yay, more XBMS!

The new implementation of your Mandelbrot is pretty cool. I don't think XBM's are what you would want, though, since you want color and don't have animation of any kind. Why not document.write() a table of colored 1x1 cells instead? It would be faster to render and be cross browser (so I can play with it under Linux ).
