Topic awaiting preservation: Online resource for checking if a public IP address is dynamic or static?

Greets!

I need to find an online resource that will allow me to enter an IP address and determine if it's a static IP address of a dynamic address (such as those from Comcast).

Ideas? I've Googled it, but didn't come up with anything.

hmm..no...only way I know to find this out is at the computer that holds the IP address...there you check if it is running an active DHCP client. But as for doing it remotely...no, I don't believe I've ever heard of anything that can check that for you...I will however ask my networking teacher (he who knows all) otmorrow and find out if he knows anything.

just ping it constantly - if it doesn't go offline within a month, you can assume it to be static ;-)

Apart from that, there's technically no difference... though I'm certain there are lists listing the ips every major ISP is giving out. Don't ask me where to find them, though.

Well, there ARE lists, because some ISPs use them to block email traffic coming from IP addresses listed as dynamic (they block email coming from servers setup on cable modems, etc...).

Anyways, there are certain ranges that are classified as dynamic - even if they're persistant dynamic (almost static). I'm merely looking to see if that information is freely available....

Yeah that pissed me off when I found out that I need to route my mail through a "static" source because my DNS is listed as being Dynamnic (not this one, the server's). If either windows was more secure, or people would stop releasing viruses there wouldn't be a need for this...
