I'm following the hammer tutorial where you split vertices and extrude 6 iterations (step 11) |

i've done that tute but don't have maya here at work. whatever the case, if you have the selection tool picked you should be able to click on the faces then scale them accordingly. if you can post a screenshot or something of that page of the tutorial i can probably help more. |

OK...not knowing a thing about maya, hre is where I think you've gone wrong, from general 3D principals. it appears that you have to extrude the two faces seperatly, so that you have two seperate polygon sets for when you scale them. it appears now that you only have 1 set, which is why the back face is scaling down towards the centrepoint. |

i'll have to run thru the tute again, but you missed something somewhere once you split the vertices tho two sections should independently scale after you've extruded them. |

Maybe i'm extruding wrong, after I extrude it automatically switches to the "show manipulator tool" but has no manipulators(arrows to scale/rotate/move) |
