You don't have to take it literally. I.e. not just pictures of other countries, though of course that is welcome - I want to see anything that you as the photographer don't come into contact with regularly. Maybe that means venturing out into a part of the city you've never been to before, or even experimenting with equipment or techniques you've never used before. Basically, I want you to explore new things and show me what you find. A few sentences to describe how the picture fits in with the spirit of the assignment to you would be very cool.

Rules:
1. Photo needs to go along with the subject in some way.
2. Use thumbnails for photos with any dimension larger than 450 px or over 40 kb.
3. Post as many as you want.
4. At the end of the week the person who chose the topic will pick someone to choose the next topic. This isn't a "winner", just someone who gets to suggest the next topic.
5. No sigs.

BTW, I see that there was a week 49, 50, and 51 before but they were a mistake, so I'm reusing 49, but this is the real one as far as I can tell

Go!

Here's mine. All three are from my two-month study abroad in Kyoto, Japan last summer.

Ten thousand tiny boddhisativa sculptures at a Buddhist temple.

The paper lamps as night falls at a performance of Noh theater.

Buddhist worshipers at a ceremony conducted by the Ajari-san in his temple high up in the mountains northeast of Kyoto.

Hi TCG, nic pics. I'm curious as to how you managed the effect in your photos similar to this one. It's an effect I have been trying to use in some controlled way for a while now. You have so many like that, and very nice they are too; they can't all be flukes surely?

Looks as if 'liquify' in PS could be used to this end. Not that...that's what's going on there.

Thanks very much for the comments I'm re-uploading the photos in that roll now that my photo gallery script supports preserving EXIF information on resize, so that you can see the aperture and shutter speed used in the photos. It was nothing more than using a long shutter speed (several seconds) and moving the camera around. Nothing very complex That particular photo you linked to was taken at f/2.6 with a shutter speed of 3.2 sec. By the time you read this, you should be able to see that data for all the photos in that roll on my photo gallery.

While I certainly like hearing feedback about my own photography, I want to see some other people post photos too

=> TCG and No Jive; many thanks for the comments.

=> TCG; still scratching head re "Foreign" - it's an excellent topic choice. I wouldn't stress about the lack of postings; for me certainly, a subject is not as easily come by as is the norm and I dare say the rest are also deliberating deeply.

Hehe, I understand. By all means, take your time. I just wanted to be sure the thread didn't go off in a different direction

BTW, I noticed the last one lasted rather longer than a week. Is that the norm, or should I go ahead and try and pick someone a week after I posted mine, or what? Just curious how things work Again, take your time.

It´s very common for those "weeks" to be quite a bit longer than 7 days, mostly because not everyone is online daily, and some people are a bit forgetful. This doesn´t bother anyone anymore...

Feel free to deliberately let this one run a bit longer... I think it´s a good topic and many people (like me ) probably have some nice shots, but are too lazy right now to convert and upload them...

Very nice shots so far. No, it doesn't have to be foreign to the US. It just has to be foreign to you I'd be interested to see what a Japanese person would find worth documenting about American culture.
