I am having trouble taking an image created for print (8 1/2'' x 11'' 600dpi) and making it into a .pdf small enough to send over email. So far I have been able to get it down to about 2.2Mb.

If anyone has any imput or tips I could use that would be great.

Before a scientist goes mad, there's probably a time when he's only partially mad. And this is the time when he's going to throw his best parties.

How about openning the image up in photoshop resizing it, start by reducing your DPI from 600 to 72, and then adjust the size. You can then either place this image into your PDF format. Or you can save the image as a JPEG, GIF or PNG (these tend to have the best compression) and send it in this format.

Ugh... important question. Are you trying to keep the print quality of this image up? If so, disreguard the above post and you are going to be stuck with a huge file, 2.2 meg seems to be a great size for a standard page at 600 dpi.

I think that people understand that web graphics are going to be somewhat compressed. I am going to try reducing the DPI to 72 and see what happens. How do I take an image that is already 600dpi and make it 72dpi?

I got it reduced, and this are looking... okay at 900k, but when I dip to about 750 things just become blurry as all hell.

Did it!

I took the original file of about 26MB and reduced the resolution to 72dpi, then I flattened the image and converted it to a "Quality 8" jpg compressed pdf. The result is a 309k presentable pdf.

Thanks Warmage

Just a little tip:
If you need a pdf for digital printing (using an oversized laser copier but NO press) you could leave your resolution at 300dpi.

Oh and the edit button actually works...
