Anyone have any experiece on doing 3D movies to plug into a website? I am looking for something on Windows platform to do this. It's just to do a 3D rotational movie of some products.

If someone has a suggestion other than using Quicktime, I'm all up for suggestions.

Thanks in advance!

CPrompt: I haven't much experience producing 3D on a PC. Most of my 3D work has been on Silicon graphics machines. You will need a 3D program to create the images for your movie. Bryce, SoftImage, and Alias are three you might try. Once you have created the movie in the 3D software, then you can create the movie in what ever format you like.

I ve made more than a few quicktime movies, but not of that sort. They are called ' Quicktime VR' movies.

here is a starting point for your search:

If you could render something in a 3D prog and snap X number of images you could build a slider in flash to do the same thing. This would be good because most people already have flash. And then there are programs built specifically for Flash that do this. Check out Electric Rain. I've also seen a prog called IPIX which uses JAVA but that is better for perspective views with real images. But I guess this is off topic because you are asking for Quicktime itself. But these are possible alternatives.

MalFunkShun, actually anything that i can use to do a rotational view of some of products would be fine.

I have thought about using Flash too. Checked out the IPIX thing too. That was pretty cool. I'll check out the
Electric Rain.

Thanks!

H][RO,

I haven't used a 3ds model before. I was going to do just what you were talking about. Take snapshots of the products at different angels and then put them back together in a VR program.

I just haven't found a program that will allow me to do just that. The IPIX thing seemed like the best way to go though. I'm going to start working on testing that at the end of the week.

Actually, from my experience, I find that more people have Quicktime than Flash.

Flash is commonly used in lots of advertisements and flashy splashpages, annoying the crap out of a great many people, to the point where they won't use Flash anymore. In fact, the only reason I keep Flash is for Homestar Runner.

Quicktime is from Apple, who is commonly trusted more than Macromedia. Especially when Macromedia's software is commonly abused.

Just my take on it.

You should just be able to take a number of photos of the product at varying angles around it (I suggest you have a tripod or way of making sure the pictures you take are level and evenly spaced out). After that, you will need a program to take all those images and spit out the Quicktime VR. It should be as simple as that. (I have made panoramic Quicktime VR's, which are supposedly more complicated to make, and it wasn't difficult at all. So it shouldn't be too bad to create rotational Quicktime VR's.)
