At some point in the day you wake up and do whatever it is that you do.

What is your motivation to continue living ? What is it that you get from life ?

Personally, hope, curiosity and love...

Which, or course, really only gives a face to the three things you mentioned...

I agree with DL here, I've got three of those reasons running around at home
Asides from that I guess the possibillity to be able to learn how to do something that I didn't know how to do yesterday is a pretty good motivator to get out of bed.

As I enjoy the luxury of actually getting paid for what originally was a hobby I'm also getting paid to get better at it, to learn new things. That part is superb!

Because one day, I won't wake up here. One day I'll wake up in the morning, and have much more purpose than I possibly could regardless of status or employment here. And the more I work at it, the faster it'll get here. That's my drive.

And to one day find acceptance from DL and the rest of the elders

I get up in the mornings mostly because I have to... I have people waiting to see me, places I need to go and things that I have to do

I get up to go to class, see my friends and family and to do the various other things my day has in store for me

The thought that I might make somebody else's day/week/life just a little brighter once in a while. The hope that my own day/week/life could turn out better than the last one, just once in a while. The curiosity that forces me to rise, simply to see what might happen today - and whether it will be a good or a bad thing.

I am motivated by sheer bloody-mindedness on my bad days. On my good days, I don't need any excuses to get out of bed and start singing along to the radio.

The contrast between the two is dramatic.

Today is a bad day. I'm supposed to be on my holidays, but I'm in the office instead. The high-point of my day was finishing the new server. Nothing really makes me tick more than shoving a mish-mash of high-spec components at me and saying "build that".

The low point of my day was having the phone put down on me by someone too ignorant to realise how rude it was. As low points go, that was tolerable.

What's keeping me going on this damp and muggy day?

I haven't finished playing Doom 3 yet.

I guess I get up to smoke to smoke a cig.
Then I get in the car, and head to work, to smoke a cig.
And then I take breaks at work to smoke a cig.
Then I get home and my wife tells me to quite smoking,
so I go outside and smoke a cig.

But really,
I guess just life in general, I really like it.
But besides that, my son and one on the way has helped me to decide I
need to make more money, so I now work harder, and if it wan't for this place,
I would probably worker even harder.

To me it depends, are you asking what do you live for or what am i existing for?
I live for the unusual. I exist because i merely do not know what i would do once i am dead.

I live for God, my family, and my close friends. I believe that God has a plan for me, and I won't die until that plan happens. I may have every other imaginable thing happen to me (like Saul named Paul), but I won't die. I also love my family, and have no intention of leaving them sonless. And I know that it may sound pompous, but I am looked up to by many of my family members. I also live for my close friends, because they need me about as much as I need them. (Not to be too arogant or anything.

Gideon you live partly because i will not let you die, if you did i would probably go over to the netherworld and yank you out kicking and screaming if i have to. (YOU KNOW I WOULD, AND THAT I CAN){IT"S LIKE WHAT I TOLD DENNIS, If I SAY I AM GOING TO DO SOMETHING YOU CAN BET YOUR BOTTOM THREE HUNDRED DOLLARS I AM GOING TO DO IT.)

Because I like life. I like how it has a surprise for me, every day. Though sometimes these surprises I don't enjoy, still, it is the experience that stimulates me. Should this someday not be so, I suspect I would then be ready for death. I am still learning. Should this stop, I suspect that
life would then become a dull, tedious process.

Quite simply, I am not tired of living and learning yet.

That is why.

Is that psychological profile of the inmates you're working on, nearly finished Mr Moon?
Apart from the days when I don't want to get out of bed to face a cruel and uncaring world full of sharp edges and shouting people, I love life.
On a good day there are friends smiling, awe inspiring nature, art that touches your spirit and a serene happiness in just being.
On a bad day I still have my cocoa pops and soya milk to cheer me up.

I live to grow.... intellectually, emotionally or physically. I never seem to do all three at once, but as long as I'm making progress in at least one of these areas life is good.

Many chase money as motivation. Other seek wisdom, careers, love, passion, and others. Some of these have correlated relationships, others have an inverse relationship. As an example: Money and career are strongly correlated, while money and love are inversed.
