you all knew this thread would eventually pop up here but stick with me for it still may prove interesting. I believe i know why nobody can figure out the meaning of life. It is because it isn't there. The meaning of life on a whole i mean, the meaning of life is differant for everybody. The meaning to my life is differant from the meaning of Ramasax's life. This is why nobody has found the meaning of life. They are looking for the wrong thing.

I think that the meaning of life is: Live your life and don't give a shit about what the meaning of it is.

What more useless information is there; if it even exists?
We've gotten by fine without it, thank you very much.

But what most people forget is that 42 isn't the meaning of life. 42 is the answer to the 'ultimate question of life, universe and everything'. The question might be 'what is the meaning of life', but it might as well be 6*9

That depends upon which number system you are using. With 10 as base it would be 6*7, but with 13 as base it is 6*9

6*9 is also mentioned in the book as one of the possible questions that 42 might be the answer too.

Really? Wow...must have missed that. I know that 'What do you get when you multiply six by seven' is what Arthur Dent pulls out of the prehistoric scrabble bag

Guess you did miss it, because he actually pulls out "six by nine." That's the place it's mentioned.

If there is a meaning to life, I think it would simply be 'to live'. As there isn't, then we may as well just get on with living.

...and I'm disgusted by the lack of knowledge on The Guide! It's just not good enough. Skaarjj, you will stay after class to re-read the whole five-book trilogy.

Uh, Wes? You may go.

I know that there is no good in them, but for a man to rejoice, and to do good in his life. And also that every man should eat and drink, and enjoy the good of all his labour, it is the gift of God.

I know the meaning of my life centers around how I relate to other human persons thru good times and bad. Persons I care about make me happy and sometimes not. Parents, spouse, children, friends, etc. give my life meaning. To me, to love, to care and to be loved is what life is all about. Usually, we feel good or like it when we have meant something to someone, IMO even if its to only one person. To live solitary, without human contact would be ok too I think if that person had a deep spriritual life and felt he or she wasn't lacking in any friendship.

The meaning of life is always right in front of you. All you have to do is see it. Too bad so many do not. Probably cause they look everywhere but inside themselves. Start with the basics like what right and wrong means to you.

I think Sangreal is on to something about the meanig of life. It is different for almost everyone. At least the reason why people continue to live and don't go on a killing rampage and then commit suicide. I think that is a logical assumption. I have a different view about why we (humans) are alive and why here, but I don't want to turn this string into a religious debate. There are enough of those already going on (beat ya Sangreal). (As for the meaning of life for the asylumites, check out the thread "what makes you tick".)

What did you beat me to Gideon? Did yo think i was plotting another god question arguement?????? No way. By the way the reason most people don't go on a murder spree is that they are too busy planning their suicide and the reason others don't commit suicide is their planning murder sprees. Thus everybody is planning to kill somebody and That sentence makes me sound paranoid but it doesn't matter because they can't kill me. I am too stubborn to die and all everybody ever does is plan. I may not always lead, but i shall NEVER follow.

No....

The reason people arent going on killing sprees is the whole DNA, fingerprint, CSI, and Cameras everywhere thing. Which makes killiing sprees an almost sure way into prison. I myself prefer the prison my mind has enclosed me in, not the one that "justice" has in store for me when I do complete that killing spree. Which of course now wont happen...

Damn cops... They ruin everything.

Saying there are enough religious threads going on.

Oh, and Sangreal, you are too stubborn to die. I predicit that you will live to 130 years old and still be cantancerous enough to swing your cane around.

And one other thing...
You shall always follow, you only get the decision of whom you want to follow: Light or dark? Good or bad? The world or not the world? Those are where the real answers lie. The only way to lead is to sometimes follow a big picture in your own way. That is being original.

Do not rebuke a mocker or he will hate you, rebuke a wise man and he will love you.
