I've got a mockup going for a site template here that I'm having a bit of trouble with in IE 5-6.

As you can see from the example the image in IE is dropping below that subnav in the left column and this happens whether that's an image or a DIV (it may end up a FIR div later). It's fixed (in IE) if I apply float:right to it but that screws it up a bit (drops it 10ish pixels) everywhere else.

Seems like I've run into this before but I don't recall the problem, so I post here to hopefully forever burn the solution into my memory.

Oh yeah, I wouldn't mind browser check to let me know if that's off at all in any other browsers I haven't looked at (check out on Win Firebird/fox and Opera here).

Thanks

You could follow the same tactic as earlier in your page and use a sized div with that image as its background. It is usually very effective.

thanks for the attention goodsir, sorry I had forgotten this thread. I cross posted this to the GN and squeezed some precious brain juice from Paul O'Brien

turned out to be what he called a "3 pixel jog". Fancy that, named and everything as if it were common knowledge =) I'd never run into that one before.

A few other gems in that thread as well regarding Macintosh and correcting my hacks to include the Mac IE, good stuff.

you know what. I had no idea the Paul posts on the GN or even "hung out" with any of the asylum guys. He helped me out alot on his threads over at sitepoint. I think he's a mod there or something:

sitepoint forums: http://www.sitepoint.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=53

His site has alot of good layout demos found here: http://www.pmob.co.uk/temp/3colfixedtest_4.htm .

Guy really knows his css. I wouldn't be suprised if he ended up writing a book or something. Anyways, props to you Paul!!
