Hi all,

Just like to introduce myself: I`ve been working on some routines on and off now for about a year, and as INI knows, I have put together several Amiga intros/demos which can be viewed at http://norrish.force9.co.uk/amiga (when my server is able to serve!)
Most of the intros/demos there are either a personal favourite, a request, or simply an exercise for a routine I had in mind. Feel free to pillage any routines, but please remember where they came from!
A big hello to INI for introdcing me to this forum!

Ray

The poster has demanded we remove all his contributions, less he takes legal action.
We have done so.
Now Tyberius Prime expects him to start complaining that we removed his 'free speech' since this message will replace all of his posts, past and future.
Don't follow his example - seek real life help first.

Pretty nifty stuff. It's interesting to see how much use you make of images... it's almost like you're not doing the effect (of course, I bet many of the effects would be impossible to do practically in Javascript alone ).

I saw your site a while ago. It's great. The only drawback is that you grow up in dark side of the force. Who said I was on Atari ?

You`re right. But then, I always try to use images as little as possible - I even avoid using animated gifs when I`m not feeling lazy
Yea, some of the things would be impossible.. I`d love to be proved wrong. I am still improving my routines.
InI has previously tried to improve some of my routines
There are still many fx that are code + image trickery.. which is exactly how it was in the amiga demo scene. I did code amiga demos, so I still am able to apply (or attempt to apply) the same approach. When it's not possible, I use the most optimised images I can think of.
Remember, I`m trying to copy/emulate something that can be referenced, so I will have to try to keep as close as possible to the original.

Thanks Poi, I`ve enjoyed some of your great stuff too, especially the < 20 line and 5k stuff I`ve seen.
I`ll only say that I *was* atari until it packed in on me and when I tried to get a replacement, the only machine available was... the a500.. considering it was £100 dearer than the ST .. I had to take it.. and I never looked back But the ST had it's good points too.
There was the erm.. and also the... erm..

Considering IE is a good thing, but considering standards is a better one. Ok, IE eats JavaScript like no other browser, but many effects are possible in Opera, Safari, and all the Gecko based browsers ...

I'm glad you enjoyed my work.

Sure the ST had it's good points. For the STf they were the ease to use it and its very limitations and therefore the little pride to go beyond them. I can't imagine how Level-16 felt when they coded the very first overscan, or the feeling of those who the did first hardscroll, or the first overscan 100% in GFA basic. The STe was better, though still technically behind the Amiga(s) available at the time ( damn! if only the Blitter had its own clock ), alas it has rarely been fully exploited ( see the Brain Damage by Aggression, or Illusion by Next ( DX win32 port ) in the Phaleon Giga Demo )

Poi: I was contracted to WJS design around 1988 when they produced the first proper scrolling game on it I think it was the "impossible" conversion of the Amiga game Blood Money? There was a great flurry of interest in the ST as something that could actually be programmed when this conversion appeared!

The only things I did for the ST around that time was to convert a protracker player and some compression routines from the amiga.

The browsers you mention: I have hardly heard of them apart from opera, which I did look at, but binned in double quick time. Surely people don't use these things

With my professional hat on, I only consider IE. This is because my company develops and supplies web based applications which are written to work only in IE - the operational features would simply not be available. Our target market is local government, and all use IE. In fact, my entire interest and work I have done is spawned from developing application frameworks for our corporate products, and this is purely based around the fact that the majority of web users still use IE. I have unfortunately carried that mentality into this environment, for good or bad.
I really just can't be doing with the "standards" thing - take the MAC for instance - we write our commercial applications to be compliant - and this includes whatever the MAC IE supposedly adheres to, but it doesn't. In the end, we have had to specify IE5.0+ on Windows only, because the MAC IE didn't comply, even though it was supposed to.
I suppose this has helped to totally switch me off with regard to "compliance".. hell, look at the sine scroller thing.. fighting to get stuff working under miriads of different environments starts to outweigh what it is you are trying to do in the 1st place.

Even if you are working to standards, are the browser developers? no.

That may sound a little harsh, but my input into this field would be completely extinguished if I had to consider all manner of "emerging" browsers, which - from my very limited experience - are "utter pants" at best. [[ end of rant ]]
