I have downloaded all of the Microsoft XP updates and one of them turned off access to my home network. Possibly you could tell me the process to get my network up and running again.

I'm not network-savvy so I don't know how to help him this time. For your information, he's one of the few elite microchip quality assurance professionals in the world who works at Lockheed Martin. I don't know what questions to ask him in order to help him troubleshoot nor do I, well, I don't feel like giving him instructions on how to turn off the built-in firewall, etc. My computer is already setup with many things disabled so that makes writing accurate instructions difficult.

I'll pass on your questions/suggestions if they're reasonable.

Simple answer: he needs to go to the new security console and disable the Windows Firewall.

COnsidering that SP2 turns it on without asking you, this is most likely what the problem is. But I could be wrong, you never know. Try it though. The windows firewall is shithouse anyway. I recommend a good firewall, like Sygate Personal Firewall.
